Where is the blu ray?

Why won't Criterion license this great film from Miramax/Lionsgate and restore it from a 4K scan and release this beautiful film on blu ray loaded with special features.
Miramax will not do justice with this awesome film. They release crummy blu rays (except Chicago) when there is so much on The Crying Game.

I'm with you, I don't understand. This movie, for a low budget foreign film, made lots of money. It launched several careers internationally. It also was nominated for a good number of Oscars, and won one for Best Original Screenplay. It was not only loved by the critics, but it was a crowd pleaser. A real modern classic. If pure garbage like "Dude, Where's My Car?" can get the Blu-ray treatment, why can't a quality film like this get it?

probably because it's an older movie now. 

so, most people probably have never heard of it.

Just read an announcement that the British Film Institute is going to release a blu-ray of this movie....date yet to be announced.

Unfortunately, it is a Region 2 only disc. The movie was popular in the US....it was an indie hit....as well as getting multiple Oscar nominations (an American award)....why no Blu-ray here, too?

Why such a long wait for such an excellent modern classic?

There's already been a Dutch BD which is region-A compatible. Seems to be OOP though.

we'll get one soon enough if bfi is releasing it. i think lions gate holds the rights after miramax became wc, an lions gate isn't to keen on releasing older artsy type films even if they won an oscar. it seems like all they care about are bad horror movies most of time. even when they do release older movies I'm almost sure they are not collectors editions or anything. I dnt think they license to criterion, but thats who would really do this film justice.

i will give them some credit for the bad lieutenant bluray, even tho the bonus features are pretty lacking. its one of my favs and from around the same time of crying game.

but look at what drafthouse films did w Ms. 45.

A lions gate bluray might do, but I'm hoping for the deluxe treatment, cause the film is terribly lacking on the hd field.

hell with all the recent trans stuff you'd think they'd get this movie out on blu. or maybe its just too dark for the stupid P.C. crowd.

I definitely agree with you. I've been thinking about this film a lot lately, & I've thought it would make a great Criterion release. I hope they release it soon.

BFI Video is FINALLY releasing this on 'region B' blu-ray on Feb 20th, 2017 (source: Blu-ray.com). Besides the stiff price tag (just under 20 pounds on Amz.uk currently), unless one has a region-free player (fortunately I have 3 of them), the disc won't play on N. American (region 'A') players. In any case, hoping the blu-ray will have benefitted from some form of restoration or remastering, seeing that this is the film's 25th anniversary. And oh, absolutely love the haunting title song by Boy George!
