I always find Ron Perlman more likable than Federico Luppi in this

Perlman is just so charismatic.

I don't really understand this. He just seemed hollow and sadistic person, who just happened to act sort of a "good guy" in the end.

He beats Jesus to death without ever really knowing why, even if it was somewhat accidental. His uncle dies and he laughs like a maniac for his inheritance. And what about all the plastic surgery stuff. He reminds me of Patrick Bateman more than anyone else.
