What Was the Point of Nudity?

I don't see any need whatsoever to show the kid's ass. Why purpose does it serve?

I missed it also, glad someone else is watching it. Do you know who was the resteraunt guys buddy? The one with the big eyes and funny smile/teeth, sucking on the joint? Been driving me nuts...

Yes, channel "THiS" used to be RTN didn't it? Who that guy is is still puzzling me, only recall seeing him that one scene... can see his face in other shows but keeps slipping away.

I think you're referring to Steve Buscemi -- great actor, who has done very well since then.

That's kind of a two part question:
1. Why was there a scene of that couple getting naked together?
2. Why was the derriere of the boy shown explicitly?

For question 1, just coming-of-age stuff, I suppose.

I have two possible answers to question 2:
1. The director wanted to show the audience that the scene wasn't completely fake.
2. The director wanted to instill some real emotion in the two actors by having the boy get naked for real. It also would add credibility to their apparent emotions to follow through and show the nudity in the released film.

Perfectly logical reasons, in a strictly logical context.

reply

Because the character is naked and the fact that there is absolutely nothing sexual about a boy's butt? If you saw it as such you need help and if you didn't what difference does it make. No need to act as if they shot it upclose with the girl caressing it.

Tell that to your priest and see what he thinks... lulz

reply

Sighhhhhh, and afcourse a priest is added to this conversation. I get really sick and tired of that catholic bashing going on in the media. The ones who did wrong MUST be punished, but, please, leave the rest out of the discussion. Most priests are NOT like that!!! As for the nude scene with the two kids. I think I agree with someone else here. I think the director thought it was needed. I myself get no extra feelings when I see it....thankgod. It just reminds me of my own coming of age. Nothing strange or wrong with that.

There is a mirror behind the girl and you can briefly see her bare backside in this scene, so she also may have been nude. I've heard actors can wear modesty patches to give the appearance of being nude. I am sure they had to take extra precautions since both actors were minors during filming.

reply

Perhaps the director was trying to pay homage to that bare butt scene in Romeo and Juliet where Romeo's naked butt-cheeks are shown?? 

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

reply

Just saw that scene, and I noticed there's a strange moment toward the end of the shot when it begins to zoom in. Maybe the cameraman was about to zoom in to crop out the nudity? Probably another take wasn't available, so they had to use that one in the film.

reply

just watched on TV and saw nothing below the waist on either kid.
