Bad Graphics + No Story = Unwatchable Mess

When you're a fan of animation like I am, you can understand that not everyone digs watching cartoons.

But when you are subjected to a movie like CW, and let's pray there won't be any more like it-that is just so painfully awful on every level, script, acting, graphics, you start thinking of Bakshi as a Thief, for stealing two hours of your life that you can never get back...

Did I mention that I did not care that much for this film?

Yeah, it's a pretty terrible film, the story just falls apart when that main female animated character went real life, but then again it sucks from the beginning. "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is soooooooooo much better than this piece of trash.

reply

But how do you really feel?

This is kind of a "nitch" movie. It is definatly not for everyone, and it is definatly not Bakshi's best work.

But I do not think it is as bad as you make it out to be.

Again, not something I would recomend for everyone, but if you like oddball cinema you may enjoy it.

who framed roger rabbit is a way overrated annoying piece of garbage.

Will someone explain the story to me, please? Give me a quick plot synopsis.

I'm surrounded by idiots. ....literally.

" Jack Deebs is a cartoonist who is due to be released from jail. His comic book " Cool World " describes a zany world populated by "doodles" (cartoon characters) and "noids" (humanoids). What Jack doesn't realize is that Cool World really does exist, and a "doodle" scientist has just perfected a machine which links Cool World with our world. Intrigued at seeing his creating come to life, Jack is nonetheless wary as he knows that not everything in Cool World is exactly friendly. "

Thanks a bunch.

On certain boards.... I'm surrounded by idiots. Why?

I just watched this, and i thought it was thoroughly entertaining. Probably mostly because of the two hot animated chicks. but anyway, i thought it was certainly worth watching.

now im gonna rewatch the first hour again to see Holly dancing around.

reply

Well I've seen worst animated films, but agree this is one of the worst.

At least "Holli Would" was smoking hot, either as a doodle or as a real person (Kim Basinger, mmm)

reply

I'm a bit puzzled. When I saw a commercial as a kid, it looked like it had some definite potential. Holli seemed like this crazy maniacal chick who wanted to take over the world! Like, purposefully leading a conquering invasion! And only Brad Pitt could stop her! (Not that I knew who he was)

I can't even seem to find whatever I saw back then. The trailer I found on youtube is totally unfamiliar. And, it was awhile back and I was young, but she didn't look rotoscoped; yet she clearly is. I wonder if there's any part where she's driving like a maniac and/or says "The real world is gonna be mine!" or if that's a severely garbled memory.

Exactly

a true mess of a film

When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...

Just watched this fully for the first time since I was a kid and while I did somewhat enjoy the movie, it's not as nearly as good as I remembered it to be. The main problem with the movie was that they took way too long getting Holli to the real world and when she finally does get there, the movie completely falls apart. If they would have gotten to the point within the first half hour and then focused on Holli's interaction with the real world, the movie would have been a lot more interesting.

You can't really blame Ralph Bakshi for it either, from what I've read people kept on toying with the script (including Kim Basinger), which explains why it turned into a complete mess. Hell they originally wanted Drew Berrymore to play Holli, which I think would have been much more appropriate, but for whatever reason Basinger got the role.

This is one movie I wouldn't mind seeing a re-make of, this time with Bakshi's original vision.

Because sponges never have bad days.

I managed all of 9 minutes of this utter rubbish, any more and I doubt if I would be here now!!!!
Byrne, Pitt, et al must really cringe when they get reminded of taking part in such an awful film.

I actually managed to make it all the way through the end of the film. What a terrible movie.
