Any fans out there?

I caught this movie on cable and decided to watch... since Brad Pitt (fight club) and kim Basinger (LA Confidential) and Gabriel Byrne (Usual Suspects) were the lead roles i thought for sure it would be worth a watch. What i found was a crappy copy off of Roger Rabbit except not nearly as funny or whimsical. I remember wanting to see the movie as a kid because i thought the cartoon version of Kim Basinger looked hot. And that, my friends, is the extent of this movie: 3 good actors acting terribly, and one hot cartoon chick who doesnt even strip for the cameras. So i was just wondering if there was ANYONE who actually LIKED this movie?? If so, please reply.

I totally agree. When I saw this the first thing that came to mind was "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" only with bad acting and crappy animation. I noticed that all the umm... "doodles" in "Cool World" have no shadows or highlights, unlike Roger Rabbit which did, making the caracters look more life-like. Overall, "Cool World" just lacks.

I think I like this film. The reason I'm not sure is because I watched it on Sky Movies late one night about 3 months ago and have only seen it once.
The film was made '91 - '92 which happens to be about the same time the rave scene in UK was going off - and I kinda got involved. I remember the film being advertised at the time, but never saw it.
There is a scene where the main characters are in a club and dancing to 'Papua New Guinea' by Future Sound of London. Now this is one of my all time favourite tunes so I was going all gooey eyed and getting nostalgic whilst watching the film. I think the whole weirdness of the film with the wonkey buildings and stuff is, well, cool. So I liked the experience.
I need to see the film again to see if I really like it though.
The fact that I still think about it and am considering buying it on DVD says something...I can't say I care if the characters in Roger Rabbit looked more realistic, or that the actors in the film acted badly. For me that isn't 'IT'.
Maybe I should never see it again just so I can't get dissapointed by it...

I only saw this movie just for the fact to say that I had seen it. Ralph Bakshi is one of my favorite directors, his work when it hits can be really good IMHO he only really hit with four of his films(Street Fight, Heavy Traffic, Wizards, and American Pop). Cool World was bad, but from what I understand was drastically different from the concept Bakshi had. Just keep in mind, most of the time when you see a bad Bakshi movie, it means the producers took away his money.

Yes, I am a fan. It is not a great movie, but I love the production design, the music is great, and there are some funny moments. While not as technically polished as Roger Rabbit, I'll take this film over that overrated pile of dung any day. The character of Roger is, without question, the single most annoying animated movie character ever created. (Lilo is a close second.) I liked Looney Tunes: Back in Action better than both of them combined, so there you go.

I have always wanted to see this movie, and could not find it in the rental places (should have been a clue) soo... i bought it. This film is not good. It had the creepy porno cartoon film atmosphere, without showing any skin. Reminded me of Fritz the cat, or Heavy Metal. If you want to see a fantasy cartoon with breasts, get heavy metal, if you want to see animation mixed with real life, get roger rabit. But if you want to see Brad pitt, in his worst roll ever, get Cool World.

Cool world was a movie i saw when i was just a kid, but i remember thinking "what ever happened to that movie with the cigar smoking spider and the hot cartoon?" so i looked it up, immediatly bought the DVD and jsut watched it.......the movie was amazing, but in an awful way. It in NO WAY can contend with who framed rodger Rabbit in that they are two different styles!
WFRR was supposed to be in one world while Cool World was supposed to be like alternate demensions, explaining the AWSOME early 90's music, hair, and awful cartoons.
All in all this movie is a GOD SEND and should be a cult classic,,,i mean...its about cartoons and humans banging...what else could an ealy 90's nerd want?

I can't explain why i love this movie. I know it's pointless, with a crappy script, horribly directed and fool cartoons acting much better than the real actors, but I love it. I saw it when I was 10 years old and I loved it. I saw it again last week and I'm still loving it. Maybe it's the atmosphere of a decadent soft-porno cartoon flick, with all those doodles doing stupid things... maybe it's the wonderful David Bowie song at the end... it's a mistery to me, but I'm sure of something:
While Roger Rabbit is a masterpiece for its cinematographic values, Cool world is a cult classic for taking itself too far, even if it's crap, just like "Plan 9 from outer space" or "The rocky horror picture show".

I can enjoy this film and I'd give it 6/10. Reasons: the animation is very well done, but the problem is that this movie was made for adults, and adults probably won't like it. Children won't understand what it's about. I think only teenagers can enjoy this film, but they watch the more commercial films like the special effects crap of "Godzilla" or "Independence Day" - more recently "The Day After Tomorrow". "Cool World" is OK, and they made the best of the silly story. Brad Pitt isn't as good as in the other movies, he looks uncomfortable in his role (I don't blame him). Anyway, who cares about the acting? Basinger isn't good here, Byrne is average here, Pitt is just OK here. The movie will be enjoyed by few, and that's a shame. I'm glad to be one of them, though.

P.S. - I really like David Bowie's title song and Mark Isham's score

No, see that's the problem with this movie. It wasn't made for adults. If it was made for adults it wouldn't have cartoon characters run across the screen for no reason and like crash into each other and do stuff that doesnt' make any sense. Only a 4 year old would find this entertaining. (tip to make the movie better: put it on mute everytime Kim Basinger is on the screen.)
