When the Dr first meets the Godfather, he says money is a wall, a beautiful wall that keeps me away from the degradation on the other side. I am proud of this wall. The people on the other side of the wall, are also proud.

I’m a bit confused by this; from what I gather though, he’s proud of the money he makes (takes) and the people who do not have money, are proud they are not tied to making it? Am I getting that right?

The Godfather is exploiting the poor in the slums.

Their pride in wanting to do a simple day's work is the tool of their own exploitation.
