Swayze done good.

I just wanted to say that I didn't expect to see Patrick Swayze in this kind of role. He did a good job, I thought, turning a pretty cliche character -- disillusioned American who finds self amidst impoverished but spiritually superior Third Worlders -- into someone with whom we could identify.

no he didn't

I LOVED this movie as well and was surprised to see Patrick Swayze perform his character as good as his did. This is one of the movies that make me cry and laugh the whole way through. I feel and hope for the main characters.

Beautifully done.

I completely agree. You can't even read on his face that he dislikes being there in India. A good film.

I agree Swayze was outstanding. If he weren't considered a pretty boy actor, justice would have nominated him for an Oscar. As far as not telling on his face what he was thinking, how in the world do you know he was feeling anything other than empathy for the people there. Yes, it's a country of Western-defined squalor, but by God, some people can hold their noses and try to bring joy to people. Did you not catch any of this in your thorough look at the film? Brilliant job by him if you're intellectually honest.

I wrote the first thought that had come to my mind. The moment it was written I realised how stupid it sounded and how st... it was. You're perfectly right.

It's an 'Om Puri' movie. His performance was powerful and he dominated Patrick in all the scenes.

Not a bad performance though I don't think it was Oscar worthy as someone else said.
