Do you think the British media were idiots on this movie?

Could this movie be blamed for a tragic murder like Jamie Bulger?

I think the British media are idiots all of the time...and most of the British people for being so easily influenced. But yes, the ridiculous outcry over this film is a perfect example of this.

Hasn't it been proven that the two kids didn't even watch this movie anyway.

It's gonna take a lot more than a lesbian, vampire, biker, whore to ruin my day.

One of their uncles used to rent them out horror films all the time,Childs Play 3 was the last film they had seen before what happened. So it could easily of been what given them their inspiration to kill.

This is nuts! And I have a VERY high tolerance for nuts.

...or maybe just an excuse.

Even if so, the fact of the matter would be that a LOT of kids watch horror movies(be their parenting them or them sneaking out and into movie theaters), but MOST don't kill other kids or get the IDEAS to murder people. Only kids who were already emotionally and psychologically unstable might, but the damage on THEM would be MUCH longer than just popping in a horror movie, watching it and then getting the knack to commit murder.

Complete and utter garbage: Neither of the boys had even seen the film - in fact both stating they didn't watch horror films - as they both stated in police interviews, and for that matter the kid wasn't living with the father who rented any horror films, as well as the Modus Operandi when Bulger was killed was completely unlike anything in the film. Any connection between the film and the crime was also categorically ruled out by the police for these reasons.

However, the judge at the trial made some stupid comment about how there may have been a link, and all the assembled tabloid hacks focused on this one comment - presumably it made their jobs easier to have a witch hunt (and not the first media witch hunt against horror films in this country, either) and blame a film that none of the perpetrators watched, rather than consider or report on the possibility a couple of 10 year old kids were capable of kidnap and murder.

Now that we have guided missiles, we have misguided men.

The boy's name was JAMES Bulger. As well as blaming Child's Play 3 for his murder, the tabloids decided to rechristen him to make him sound cuter...

Latest film seen: Lakeview Terrace (2008) 4/5

Anybody have a link to the news thread on the story?

The British TABLOID media are idiots (or at least it's aimed at idiots), which doesn't mean the BBC and broadsheet papers like The Times, Guardian, Independent and Daily Telegraph, it means the rabble-rousing, reactionary, lowbrow red-top papers like The Sun (which led the campaign against this pathetic little film), Daily Mail, Mirror, News of the World and such others, the papers of Britain's unwashed masses.

I haven't bothered to research this story (I have better things to do) but I'm sure everyone who tried to censor this film (which is a very weak example of it's genre) already had an agenda against screen violence. It's so funny to think about it now because Child's Play 3 isn't exactly The Exorcist or A Clockwork Orange is it?

The British media (and by this I mean The Sun, Daily Mail etc not BBC) are throwbacks from those who used to watch public executions. See also their pieces on Brand/Ross prank/Maddie McCann/Princess Diana.

They are nothing compared to what they used to be, especially up until around 2001/2002. Then the fun really began when you started seeing most movies coming through supposedly "uncut".

The BBFC have strange ideas on what constitutes acceptable now, but most of what they do allow probably shouldn't be and vice versa.
