Yet another chance to make Christians look like idiots

Why is it OK in Hollywood to constantly take shots at Christianity? They make Christians look like idiots in at least 80% of the characters depicted as such. The other 20% merely are shown as stupid. It makes me wonder about the allegations about who runs those studios. How sad, when Muslims Jews and just about any other belief is shown as honorable except for the Christians.

How is this acceptable? Am I the only person that is sick and tired of this nonsense? I suppose I will now be viewed as one of those idiot Christians, such is the power Hollywood has to influence society.

Oh, stop whining already. This movie isn't about "making christians look like idiots" anymore than it's about making rural folk or women look like idiots. It's about an evil abusive woman who happened to be a "christian" (in her twisted perception, anyway). It's based on a true story (read an article in People a few years before the movie came out).

I think that you're right: a lot of films potray Christians as stupid. I'm not a practising Christian myself but my father is and I attend a Catholic school. I do think that religions in general are often given a hard time though as is adoption: i realise that this was a true stroy but the media outweighs the 'bad' adoptive parents with the good ones.

Because that is the real life. Nobody is perfect in this messed up world, not even christians. That's just how life is, get used to it.

In fact christians do tend to be child abusers. Some holy joe on a talk show explained why he nearly beat a kid to death. He quoted a passage in scripture to the effect that "whoever chastened his son, loves him." As a general rule, christians aren't renowned for intellectual sophistication, and hence don't tend to be enlightened parents. I know this fom my own experience and those of others I knew.

the people who do that(abuse there children) take the Bible and they put Scripture into there own words..which they will be punished for! i have always grown up in a Christian home and ive had wonderful parents and i have never even gotten a spanking!
when the Bible says that it means to punish,as in ground(for now days)or something-not abuse!
and by punishing our children it shows that we do love them because it shows that we care enough about them to stop them from doing wrong!
i havent watched the movie so i cant speak for it,but i do thing its sad at how many movies now days make Christians look bad!

I cannot believe some of the comments on this thread.
There are good and bad people in every walk of life - it's that simple.

If someone reworks the content of the Bible to make it seem okay that they did something wrong, they are not really being Christians. And please back up the "Christians tend to be child abusers" statement with something other than some yokel you saw on a talk show. You sound really ignorant.

reply

Actually, the sadist who committed this crime was a Catholic - or so she thought. And you, uwtd, are an ignorant moron.

"christians aren't renowned for intellectual sophistication"

You've really made yourself look like a first prize fool, look into something before you chat drivel.

...then it will not be politically correct to insult them. As it is nowadays not correct to insult other religions.

And it seems inevitable that the Christians will become a minority, because being Christian has become very inconvenient, unpopular, obsolete, unsuitable, inappropriate. So people stop being Christians, and those who still are ones don't have enough children to stop the extinction process, comparing to those that will overcome them.

Besides, people don't listen to Bible to hear the holy truth any more, now they look for holy truth in talk shows, Oprah, soap series and other Hollywood sacred works. Yes, I see your point, and I'm afraid that you're correct even more than you think.

reply

I could care less that the perpetrator of a crime is Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Wiccan, Buddhist, Atheist or whatever. The point is a crime was committed here and the perpetrator should be punished no matter what their religion.
