Jackie wanted it to be 'more serious'

I recently watched the HK legends version on DVD, and according to the Bey Logan commentary it seems that Jackie, felt at times the movie was a bit too slapstick, and if he had directed he would have made it to be a bit more serious.
would the film have been compleatley different if it had been more serious? or is it good because of the silly slapstick?

reply

i actually like the silly slapstick. but actually it feels like all the wong jing films at the time were stupid-funny.

reply

I would have first preferred if the film had been a bit more NOT gut-wrenchingly awful before worrying about how "serious" it was.

LOL

absolutely

unfortunately that is a skill jackie chan does not seem to have. i can imagine in this way he has succeeded in getting some of his films to be more serious but overlooked the issue of whether or not they were good enough films to be making in the first place.

that sounds strange, considering its a city hunter adaption and about every scene is whacky to the point of craziness. its not like its a sammo hung movie where everything is super violent all the time...

jackie DID do a serious movie the same year that was released -94

that is not very comical at all,but very serious ..

I wish it was more serious. Sometimes it was so stupid that it wasn't even funny.

I haven't read the manga, but what works in a manga might not work so well in a film, as you know.

I agree. If any of you have seen Meltdown, it was a homage of Die Hard but they still kept it serious and action packed.
