DVD: Does anyone else have this problem?

In my DVD (region 1) version of City Hunter I notice that many of the scenes using special visual effects shots are of a lesser quality, this is most noticible during the "Street Fighter" scene.

Notice that each time they show one of the Street Fighter characters do a blast how the quality goes from DVD to a "really bad VHS recording" quality.

Does anybody else have this problem because I notice that this problem isn't mentioned in any of the DVD reviews that I've read.

Yes! I noticed this too. I thought it had something to do with a different type of film to add the special effects in. Definitely a huge difference between shots.

I really can't complain too much, I got this movie for $5.00 at Circuit City!

But if you do find out what happened, please post it here!

Your the first person other than myself to notice/report this. I still find it strange that I still haven't found any mention of this (not even on the DVD review sites that I've been to).

But yes if I find something I'll mention it here.

Same here, I got mind at Suncoast for $5.00.
Yes also, I notice the same thing watching the film. Still a good movie.

all I can think of is that there actually were so much degrading of the film because of the extensive video-effects used... Hell! for all I know they could have done a equivalent of digital intermidiate for those scenes, and that they weren't that good at printing it back on film, or that the DI, were just so low quality compared to 35 mmm film...

I experienced the same thing with my old Megastar DVD (which I bought 4 years ago for $30 from Suncoast; what a rip!). But it wasn't as noticable maybe because of the poor quality of the print used and the very high contrast. I own the Fox disc too and I know ecactly what you mean. I bet the HKL disc has that same problem.

I have the HKL disc, it's been a long time since i've watched it but I don't remember any quality drop.

It's natural for movies with special effects, before computers started to be heavily used. It's not as apparent with US flicks because they poured more money into special effects and re-mastering, but with movies like this, it's obvious the scene went through a lot of editing, which degrades quality quickly when your medium is not digital.

It almost looks intentional lol

I didn't see any difference there between the DVD and my old VHS copy of this. I always just figured it was because of the effects, which everyone else here seems to echo.

My problem was the fact that they redubbed it. Some of my favorite lines were missing on the DVD, and a couple of the voices were different.
