Needed money!!!

Jackie must have made this piece of crap because he needed money. This is a terrible excuse for a movie. I bought it about 5 years ago and have tried to watch it several times but I always give up about the time he gets on the cruse ship. Tonight I'm starting it again one last time to see if I can watch the whole thing.

I have watched a lot of Jackie's movies in the past 2 weeks, I finally got around to Battle Creek Brawl (1980), and I loved it. Then I watched the first Jackie movie I ever saw again, Rumble in the Bronx, and I still loved it. The past 2 weeks started when I bought Police Story (1985)(Dragon Dynasty-2006 issue) Great movie. Since then I have watched First Strike (great), Mr. Nice Guy (not so great), Who Am I? (best), Legend of Drunken Master (Drunken Master II)(great) among others.

I enjoyed all of those movies alot, though I've seen them many times. Mr. Nice Guy has several flaws mostly Sammo's direction way too much slow motion, but that is pretty minor. City Hunter is the bottom of the barrel as far as Jackie Chan is concerned.

One of the reasons you may not like the movie is that you dont understand the goofy jokes. This live action version of City Hunter is based on the OVA anime series. The reason some of the jokes and stunts looks so phoney is because the film is trying to bring in the goofy parts of the animated series. Try watching the OVA's or the regular series and then watch this live action film. Otherwise it's just going to look rather stupid. That about the best advice I can give to really enjoy this film. It really will make a world of difference on how you can enjoy it.

and actually, it wasn't because he needed money he did this film. he simply asked the japanese audience which role they wanted to see him do, and that was ryu saeba (or how it's spelled). And yeah, it really is a special movie, when I saw it the first time I thought: "what is this?". I thought it was a very bad movie and told myself I wouldn't see it again. But I did, and this time in dubbed english which is worse, but despite that I enjoyed it somehow. Maybe you should try again and see the whole movie, maybe start where you ended last, because it might get better (like when jackie is dressed as a girl!). and just so you know, I havn't watched the anime serie kodai talked about, but I think it doesn't matter that much. maybe you don't understand it all, but there are many here who liked the movie a lot, and I don't think all of them have seen it.

I was already a fan of the comics and anime by the time this movie came out so when I saw it, I really enjoyed it. I ony suggesting the manga and mainly the anime before hand as it then show you how close the live action was to the animated series. It's rather rare that live action films can get close to their orginal animated brethren and this movie does it spot on.

If you stopped watching when he enters the cruise ship, then you stopped watching exactly when the movie really starts ... and that means you missed three very great and funny action scenes inclusing the famous Street Fighter sequence!

I thought this movie sucked big. But the Street Fighter sequence was pretty hilarious.

Fan opinions are very divided on this movie.
The first time I have thought it was a terrible, terrible movie. But since then I've watched it again twice and it became better. If I had to decide if its a bad or good movie, I'd still choose 'bad', but there are much worse movies Jackie did.

For instance: 'Rush Hour 3', 'Tuxedo', 'Battle Creek Brawl' (which the OP actually liked! Strange!), 'New Fist of Fury'. Compared to these, City Hunter looks like a masterpiece.

original poster....i think

I appreciate it trying to look like a cartoon. The humor is supposed to be absurd...but it's still pretty annoying and unwatchable.

The Street Fighter scene was a good idea, but it seems like they said "hey Gary Daniels makes a good Ken" and then from there just threw a bunch of sloppy crap on it.

Personally, this is my favorite of all Jackie Chan movies. You want a bad Jackie Chan movie watch some of his newer stuff like The Tuxedo, The Accidental Spy, The Medallion and The Myth (fn atrocious).
Another classic horrible movie which has Jackie in it is Fantasy Mission Force.

The only people that are against marijuanas legalization are people who havent tried it.
