street fighter obsession?

Jim Wong,the director,did "future cops" the same year,a street fighter movie.the problem is he couldnt get the rights from capcom,so he changed every name,but everyone in that movie looks exactly like their street fighter characters.

so...
he does this movie,where they actually use street fighter.

anyone know why he could use it now?
