This film made me want to visit Taipei

Taipei is so vividly portrayed. The sense of place, of Taipei as a living, breathing, changing, working city, that the director manages in this film is stunning. It's a rare director who can do that. Michael Mann did it with Los Angeles, and Rossellini did it with Rome.

Of course, today's Taipei is, I'm sure, a quite different city from the 1992 city portrayed in the film. This film exists as a snapshot of Taipei in 1992. What a wonderful film.
