forget more carry ons but a movie about carry on

My heading sounds a bit odd, but I think its pointless making another Carry on. The real stars are gone and comedy, sadly is more cynical today.
I do think a film about Carry on would be great. There was a fairly good movie about Sid James but I think the real stars were those from the start. Kenneth Williams, Hatti Jaques snd the best of them all the legendary Charles Hawtrey.
I would love to see the stories of the stars in this great series.

Check out the film COR BLIMEY: a semi-fictionalised version of the making of the Carry Ons, based on the play CLEO, CAMPING, EMMANNUELLE AND DICK.

The film shows Sid, Ken, Charlie, Babs, Joan and the rest, and is based around the Sid/Babs relationship. It's very well done: very sensitive, sometimes hilarious and sometimes sad. It leaves a lump in the throat when the "real" Babs plays herself in the final scene.

There was also a TV movie about Kenneth Willaims called "Fantabulosa" which aired on BBC 2 several years ago and starred Michael Sheen giving an eerily accurate portrayal of him in the days leading up to his death which to this day no-one knows for sure whether it was suicide or accidental death.

"Cor Blimey" was pretty good and the performances are mainly well good, Adam Godley made a good as Kenneth Williams but he Isn't quite as convincing as Michael Sheen who completely inhabited the role. Out of the two films I prefered "Fantabulosa" although if you want to see a film in which you see the majority of the main stars then "Cor Blimey" is the one to watch although I do remember you see a brief appearence of an actor playing Charles Hawtrey.

I'd love to see a series of Carry On stories, either as a TV show or series of films.
There is a rich history there to explore.

I enjoyed Cor Blimey...but it was highly fictionalised and hugely bias towards Barbra Windsor...well she was a "consultant" on it.
I also enjoyed Fabulosa, but again it was a one sided story from Ken's diaries.

But if they could meet a happy middle ground, taking into account all the behind the scenes drama and stories (not just the perspective of one person), it could be a good series there to explore.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.
