Just came back from it.

Not a review but impressions.

Great story telling with depth and complexity.

It seems The Russos and the writer have study every single character and render their personality perfectly.

It's the CBM with the best character devlopement and character exposition. It's very character driven and every character have their best exposition in this movie, every single one of them.

It's not only the CBM with the best action in it but one of the movie with the best action in it.

I like how they interweave drama, thriller likes tropes and moments of levity. It has a real psychological drama flow to it.

It's the best depiction of Tony Starck/IM.

All the newly introduced and new characters steal the scenes where they feature.

I genuinely think that it's not only the most mature and best MCU movie but also the best CBM, hands down !

Glad to see you enjoyed it! How'd you like Zemo?

He had an important but downplayed role and he was serviceable, though ended up having a personal motivation to what he did. He could have been better but i feel like he was downplayed on purpose.

I feel like it was done to focus more on the real stakes, aka Cap/im relationbship.

It also feels like Zemo character is a work in process type of villain, as if he will appear in future movies with a bigger role.

Just got back from seeing it. First of all, I have to give Markus and McFeely and the Russos a ton of credit. It would have been very easy for this movie to be a mess. Instead the story was tight, the pacing was overall good, and things felt organic. And the fight scenes were fantastic.

I think this is a film that will get better each time you watch it. It is fairly fast paced and for me I got very caught up in what was happening that things didn't quite resonate for me as much as I would have liked. I wish the funeral scene had been a little bit longer since I think it really illustrates how alone Steve is - which makes his desire to protect Bucky more meaningful.

The end fight between Tony and Steve was heartbreaking. Right now I'd give this a 8 or 9. That could go up with re-watches.

How do we tell the good guys from the bad guys?
If they're shooting at you, they're bad.

The Russo's brother's confident and competent direction is the main stand out for me. Some of the performances, one in particular, approached being major-award worthy. The film has few flaws and even fewer false notes.

My big, and possibly only major, complaint was the score in certain places. It was a bit generic and heavy-handed at times. It was also too instructive at moments where you didn't really need the foreshadowing or emotional guidance. The Winter Soldier's score resonated with me a lot more.

Top highlights

The Black Widow
She navigates both sides of the argument, new players and deadly Widow business without ever seeming compromised or over extended. She really kicked ass - on and off the battlefield. I love this character and Marvel better wake up to the fact that she needs her own movie - The Things They Say About Her.

Cap and Bucky v German Special Forces
A beautifully orchestrated, conventional action set piece where both super soldiers get to show exactly what they're made of. Check out the poor fellow who surgically breaches with a shotgun only to get reverse breached by James "the arm" Buchanan.

Team work - Avengers style. The opening sequence really delivers on the "promise" Joss made at the end of Age of Ultron. The Captain turned these people into a fighting unit.

King T'Challa - Boseman just crushed it. Into tiny pieces. He's easily the best actor in the film with RDJ and Evans being tied for a close second.

Martin Freeman's American accent
I loved it. Every word he said was auditory candy. There's a slight regional flavor too it. Add that to a stellar performance and I think of him as an anti-Fury. Hope he gets lots more air-time in the MCU.

Sigh... so much more but so little time...

Just came back from seeing it. Great movie. 8.5/10

Just wondering, how does Stark know who Spider-Man is?

It was a very good movie. I wouldn't put it in "great" status but it was very good, better than AOU.

Positives:

The ACTION- Top notch and what you expect from a comic book movie. Like Avengers, it transports you into a comic.

MANY comic references- Love the inclusion of the Raft as well as Wakanda and the Spidey signal.

Tying 'loose ends"- This movie referred to almost every MCU movie and tied up the so called "loose ends" such as the destroying of Tonys armors, whereabouts of Ross and the disappearance of Hulk and Thor.

SPIDEY- He was very impressive. It is too soon to anoint him the best ( I still like Tobey) but it made me grin to think next year we will see him in full action

Panther- His arch is the most interesting and it is a separate arch that was very successful in a film that juggles so much. It laid the groundwork so well for the Panther movie ( Everet Ross, baby!) that it makes it easier for Coogler to build on it.

Chemistry- THIS is why the MCU is better than most. The interaction of characters you have known for years makes this movie a lot more moving than others. You never realize that until they actually fight and hurt each other.

Zemo- I almost forgot. I loved Baron Zemo. I don't understand the criticism. To me, he is the third best MCU villain behind Loki and Pierce. He was calculating, cold but very vulnerable. He had nothing to lose and played like it. He also accomplished his "goal" at the end which was badass. I cant wait to see him in the future.

Negative:

No deaths- Yeah, I know it is cliché but what made the comic series so startling were the deaths in the story. I think there needed to be a death of significance here.

Slow beginning- The movie started VERY slow. It doesn't kick up to another gear until 45 minutes in.

Besides that, it was a great movie. Best start to a Phase and I cant waith until Strange.

You on point Phife?- RIP Phife Dog

I agree about the death thing. They shouldve killed off Rhodey.
