Soundtrack... wow

This is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Why Wojciech Killar wasn't nominated for Oscar ?

I agree ,I love the soundtrack one of my favorites

I have always considered this film to be quite beautiful and the music is as well. I own the soundtrack and it is one of my favorites.

The best scores, I honestly feel, are rarely ever truly recognized, either in the form of a win or a nomination. Kilar wasn't recognized either for "Bram Stoker's Dracula" or "The Portrait of a Lady". Bernard Herrmann received no nominations for "Psycho", "Vertigo" or "North by Northwest" and those are considered some of the most iconic scores of all time. And Danny Elfman should have been a back to back nominee in 1989 and 1990 for "Batman" and "Edward Scissorhands".

But on the other hand, as long as the score did it's job, as nice as the award is, it's the effect that counts in the long run.

Really, I don't know what the hell they were thinking! Aladdin won the Oscar for "Best Original Score" that year, which is not exactly a crime, but how could they academy overlook Kilar's haunting masterpiece? It's a score of comparable achievement to Rota's score for The Godfather films IMO. In other words, it's one of the finest film scores ever written.

I agree, it's rousing and intimidating soundtrack brought a spooky atmosphere to this film! 

But you dont need spooky and distorted effects to frighten people. A glimpse at your neck is enough to keep them awake at night.

Its the only work of Wojciech Kilar I know, I wonder how many hidden gems there are among his vast array of soundtracks.

Agreed on this score, one of the absolute best. I've had the soundtrack CD since the movie came out, as it was an instant favorite of mine. I still have a few tracks handy on my phone for casual listening.

They claimed that the music wasn't Original and disqualified it I think Oliver Harper mentioned it on his review
The same happened with Last of the Mohicans the Academy disqualified LOTM too for not being original, they gave the Best Sound Oscar as compensation(?)I dunno...
1492 by Vangelis was the real Oscar snub
All 3 great masterpieces btw that came out in 1992!!!Imagine
Dracula
Last of the Mohicans
1492
being nominated that year it would have been a blood bath ...I really can't decide which is better
