I think I've figured it out....

So, while looking for a movie to watch while I waste some time, I come across this little gem on FearNet. When I see it was directed by none other than the great Peter Jackson, I figure it has to be at least a decent flick.
Oh, how wrong I was.
But, it has given me some insight into what actually happened to Peter Jackson's career and his subsequent fantastic talent.
In order to gain fame and riches, Peter Jackson sold his soul to the devil. That's right. Following this movie, he became tired of being frustrated as a second hand, incompetent director, so much so that he went down to the crossroads with a hen that hadn't been crossed by a rooster on the night of a new moon and made a pact with the devil. In return for his soul, he became a GREAT director.
Yes, I'm sure many of you have thoughts of him studying and working hard, yada yada yada, but the fact is, the only reasonable explanation is the one offered above.

I'm the opposite. I prefer his earlier work over the stuff he's done in the last 10 years. It was back when he was a film maker and not someone who edited in a few live action shots around 3 hours of CGI.

Well, that's why they make 31 flavors of ice cream. As for me personally, it just wasn't my type of movie.
I get your point about the absurd over use of CGI in movies. There was a pretty major backlash following the LOTR series, where movies like "Troy" took heavy criticism for being on big CGI battle clash.
Off the topic (somewhat) but still worth mentioning, I had a friend who was fortunate enough to get to do some programming on the LOTR battle scenes and he said in early stages of the programming, they had issues with the Orcs during the battle scenes, with some being either to aggressive and attacking everything in sight, including other Orcs, trees and rocks, while other Orcs were to passive and would lean on their weapons or lay down and doze. Because of various copyright issues, he was never able to show us any of the Orc Outtakes, but I'm sure they'd have been more entertaining than the actually movie.

Everyone has to start somewhere, KFVD. I thought this film quite humourous. And I could see some of his future works in the feel of the cinematography and the wry humour. District Nine is just as disgusting; it just has a bigger budget, as did LOTR.

I agree, and as I stated earlier, to each his own. As for me personally, I didn't care for the movie. I guess my point was, he went from being a less-than-stellar director to being the genius of LOTR in what SEEMED to be overnight. Of course, in actuality, it was a good many years. I don't fault or look down upon anybody who likes this movie, it just wasn't for me. As a 'for instance' on another board, there has been an ongoing argument as to whether "Ghost in the Shell" has an erotic component to it. I personally found the movie very sexual, where as there are people who found nothing sexual about it at all. Again, that's why they make 31 flavors of ice cream.

Sickeningly dumb thread.

And I pity anyone that doesn't find Dead Alive to be a total blast. How many of those 31 flavors does such a person actually like, I wonder? My guess is one, vanilla.

I had totally forgotten about this thread until you decided to enlighten us all with you piercing observation. You have raised the overall intellect of this thread, simply by contributing. You, my friend, have moxie and don't let anybody take that away from you. Carry on and continue making IMDB a better place, one clever comment at a time. (But you should really discontinue starting a sentence with "and". It's horrible grammar, especially when you're making observations on others intelligence.)

Even a rock knows that after such wonders as Braindead, Meet the Feebles and Bad Taste Peter Jackson somehow got a directomy.

I hope he does return to his roots. Him and Sam Raimi. Raimi hasn't made anything good since Army of Darkness. His worst offence being his last CGI infested stinker which he tried to trick us fans into thinking was going to be a return. Worst horror film I'd seen in 15 years that was.

Hidyho!

No thats... thats just no. I could reinterpret that as in Sam Raimi hasn't made anything good since the supposed "infested stinker" minus spiderman 3... excluding Army of Darkness, which for me is just kind of a buzzkill for Evil Dead and I will still only watch it for Bruce, thats the only thing that carries the movie. If u are renaming Drag Me to Hell as an "Infested Stinker"... well so be it. My personal opinion is that Drag Me to Hell is much more Evil Dead than Army of Darkness ever was.
