Why do you people still consider this as the goriest movie of all time ?

I am getting tired seeing everyone saying "Braindead is the goriest movie ever", it's NOT the goriest film of all time, check out "Premutos", oh wait, you don't like it because "The special effects are cheap", it's like saying that "Twilight is better than Nosferatu, because Nosferatu is in black and white".

I can understand if you say "This is the best gore film of all time", but "goriest" ?
If i say that a movie is the goriest film of all time, it must contain gore from the beginning to the end, not just in the last scene, even if the gore is made with "cheap effects".

I am not saying that this movie sucks, don't hate me !

I've seen PREMUTOS, ICHI THE KILLER, EVIL ALIENS and all the likes, but I still think BRAINDEAD is gorier. Maybe because during the third act it keeps throwing things at you while being inventive, hence never becoming boring (so, even if other films had 1000 gallons of blood instead of 350, Jackson's film still looks more varied and wet). It's also the only film (along with BAD TASTE) that isn't remotely sadistic despite showing a ton of bodies being squished and splattered - if I remember correctly, some French critic called this "The Gentle Splatter". And it's probably because of this "softness" (after all, everyones calls this a dark comedy rather than a horror movie) that it works and you can sit through it without getting bored.

Plus, I think special effects definitely make the difference (or heavily contribute to it) when it comes to splatter films: cheap effects make poor splatter. Look at Andreas Schnaas' films if you think otherwise.

And eventually, even if BRAINDEAD might not be the de facto goriest film of all time, it's absolutely the funniest splat-stick film around - honestly, I had a terrible time watching stuff like DOGHOUSE: no fun, no style, just a lot of juvenile fanboy-ism.

Twilight has horrible effects. THat was a pisspoor example to use.

Dead Alive does contain gore from beginning to end though. Kind of a dumb thing to say.

The answer to your question should be obvious though. You're living in a dream world if you think more then a very, very, very miniscule number of people know about Premutos.

PREMUTOS and MURDER SET PIECES and any of the AUGUST UNDERGROUND films and VIOLENT *beep* and various other films do indeed come close. Actually, THE BURNING MOON (made by the PREMUTOS director) ends with a great 10 minute sequence in Hell that is genuinely disturbing and features tons of gore and probably has more gore in a short time span than any other movie ever. But yeah, still nothing comes close to DEAD ALIVE.

Also, never understood why people say ICHI is so gorey. A couple of people get split in half and there are two or three rooms covered in blood and organs. That's about it. Boring film also (though I highly reccomend Miike's IZO, a true masterpiece).

Yeah i don't know why Ichi The Killer is so loved. I was disappointed.

The movie has gore scattered through out, sure it is the most at the end. But it starts off with the hand chopping scene, then you get the scene when Vera turns into a zombie and attacks Nurse McTavish, then you get the scene with the Priest, than the finale.

But for a while, until I believe Kill Bill, it got the title cause it used the most amount of blood in a movie ever. The definiton is gore is blood.

Anyways, not sure which cut of Dead Alive you saw... but is is a lot more gory than Premutos.

DeadAlive is the Goriest
Serbian Film and I Stand Alone, Irreversible are the most disturbing
IZO and ICHI and RAMBO 4 are the most violent
Orgazmo and Happiness are the most perverse

What about Cannibal Holocaust?

"You killed Captain Clown, YOU KILLED CAPTAIN CLOWN"-The Joker

reply

Cannibal Holocaust isn't exceptionally gory.

I've seen Premutos (uncut), and while it has a good amount of gore, it comes nowhere close to the sheer amount seen in Braindead. Are you sure you haven't seen a censored or cut version of some sort?
