Do you reckon this is better than Shaun of the Dead?

I didnt really think much to Shaun of the Dead on the whole, it was just over hyped.
This movie is *beep* awesome, much better deaths than hitting some old guy with snooker cues to "dont stop me now" that wasnt even funny.
if you want out of context music listen to the credits of this or watch the editing sketches from Big Train series 2. nothing funnier than watching a man and his son crying at the grave side to "Rockin all over the world by Status Quo" lol.

Shaun and Ed= epic.

I think Dead Alive is far more entertaining and a bit more funny.

Shaun of the Dead is the better zombie movie though, if we're talkin pure horror/zombie elements. I actually thought Shaun works better as a horror movie than as a comedy, it really does have some pretty serious and horrific scenes in it. If it weren't for the amount of slapstick, it'd be more of a black comedy than an outright goofball zombie comedy.

Anyways, Dead Alive wins it for me, on a purely "fun factor" level.

Yeah, I find it miles better than Shaun Of The Dead (which was definately an overhyped movie, but still pretty good).

Braindead runs rings around Shaun of the dead ,that film pretty much ripped this off.Shaun of the dead is good fun , Braindead = genius.

I wouldn't say Shaun ripped off Braindead at all. But between the two (I enjoyed both by the way) Shaun was one of those movies where I silently enjoyed it, Dead Alive (I can only find that here in America) had me laughing out loud. Especially taking the baby to the park. But yeah I really don't think Shaun ripped it off.

reply

Shaun didn't rip this off, if you want to compare it to anything it pays homage to Evil Dead (Shaun Wright has acknowledged his editing style used throughout most of his projects have been inspired by Raimi) and Romero's Zombie movies (Wright and Pegg even had a cameo appearance in Land of the Dead).

Damn this is a hard pick, both are so good and offer their brand of humor and horror in different ways. I can't decide.

I'm not a big fan of Shaun of the Dead, the humour is more embaressing than funny.

Braindead is much better. And i'd take Lionel attacking his mum (or was it the nurse? Can't remember) while listening to The Archers than Shaun and co. beating up a zombie to Queen.

I do like Shaun, it's has a certain "British charm" to it's humor...and I'm British.
But at the same time, I felt the humor to be "out of place" slightly.
For a zombie/comedy...you don't want the reserved "stiff upper lip" quality.

Braindead is so OTT that is just clicked. Braindead borders on cartoon-esque quality.
Maybe, jusy maybe if Shaun had let loose a little more and more often...it would have had a greater impact on this genre of film-making?

Desert island time, I'd take Braindead over Shaun everytime.
