One of the top contenders for the worst movie ever made!

I have seen quite a lot of movies, but I have not been as shocked at the sheer idiocy of any movie, as much as I was when I saw Braindead. It is a horror-comedy I know, but this movie insults the viewer's intelligence waaaaaaaaaay beyond the tolerable limit. I am fine with cheesy, sarcastic, over-the-top, demented, gory, leave-your-brain-at-home, etc type of movies as well, but what the heck is this? This movie was completely pathetic without even a single point of redemption. Wait...was this even a movie? It was so bad that there is no point debating the merit (or the sheer lack of it) of even a single scene in the entire movie.

For the love of god, I cannot believe the director is Peter Jackson! If I had seen this movie earlier, I would not have ever dared to watch any of the more respectable movies he made later. And 7.5 on IMDB? WOW? Just WOW! I have not seen such a misleading rating for any other movie. This movie makes me feel that there should be negative rating that allows users to rate below zero.

I guess you don't know that much about filmmaking, right? Caaauuuuse, the film is extremely well-directed. The cinematography, the music, the incredible special effects - it's all fantastically well done.

The movie oozes of creativity and love for filmmaking, and it shows. It's a stunning piece of independent filmmaking, and the comedy is on par with Monty Python. A great film.

*beep* continuity! Just shoot the goddamn movie!"
- My filmmaking motto.

Sure, the movie was made in 1992, but "incredible special effects"? *Cough* *Cough* *Cough* You got to be joking.

reply

No, I agree, it does have good special effects considering what they had to work with. What Peter Jackson achieved with this movie is, and was inspiring for alot of young filmmakers at that time. It is a very fun movie, and the amount of blood and gore was over the top, very funny. Braindead is GOOD craftsmanship, it's definetly not crap.

You have not seen enough really bad movies, or you have really no idea what a bad movie is if you think this is one of the worst :)

I recommend watching through that show Best of the Worst and MST3k if you want to see what is really bad. lol

True, this movie does have some excellent special effects. Practical effects have always been some of the best and CGI just takes a lot out of modern films. With practical effects, you know these people made something real, not a program in a computer; their effort shows. Although I have never been a big stop-motion animation kind of guy, the only real scene that bugs me is the sumatran monkey.

Also, how can anyone hate "I kick ass in the name of the lord!"?

One of the greatest lines in movie history. Enough said.

reply

Yes incredible special effects. Unlike the CGI crap we get with most modern films.

You have just a 'Bad Taste' (Peter Jackson movie reference) :)

It isn't the best, but it most definitely isn't the worst. It is a fun, entertaining, gory film. I enjoy when horror movies used to be fun to watch. Now they are all way too dark and serious so I found it to be a breath of fresh air that this one didn't take itself too seriously and actually allowed the viewers to enjoy themselves.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

It is insanely well crafted and its a shame you can't even see the skill involved at all. go suck frodo's dick with the rest of the world, because early peter Jackson films are 10x more enjoyable than his mainstream CGI hits. I even have the rat monkey tattooed on me I like this film so much.

This is one of my top favorite movies of all time and I commend Peter Jackson for it. I thought it was extremely imaginative and wonderfully filmed, I loved the hero. I've always thought it should be regarded as the "Ultimate Zombie Movie". I saw the premier in a very small downtown Seattle theater when it came out with a handfull of horror fans and we all had a blast! I didn't mind the Rat Monkey claymation or what ever it was, he still grossed me out which is what I wanted. I loved seeing Forest J. Ackerman taking pictures at the zoo, the electric woman on the wall, the horrible uncle pulling out teeth with pliers, the crazy party where Lionel brings his lawn mower, the nurse eating lunch with her neck, the ear-ringed ear landing in the custard, Paquita's dog, the intestines primping in the mirror, the embalmer's sandwich, the illegal tranquilizer salesman, baby's outing at the park with poor Lionel looking like a homeless man, that wild kick-a** preacher and of course ... Mum at the end OMG! I laugh harder every time I watch it and what is really funny is there are two versions RATED and UNRATED. I don't know who decides when and when not to show someones head in a blender, but the Rated version has so much good stuff taken out what's the point LOL! Two Thumbs Up.
