Damn why dont we have movies like this anymore?

It wasnt a great movie.

But it was a good movie that brings back good memories. Im sorry, Im just sick of all the Tyler Perry movies. Its more to black life then that.

The movie came on (I think) Cinemax last night, and got a good laugh out of the obvious early-90s style (fashions, music, Eddie's haircut complete with a PART!, the font on the perfume commercial, etc.). Outside of that, I was surprised at how well the movie held up 17 years later. I agree with you, the early-90s were a very unique era in Black filmmaking. Spike Lee did his thing with socially conscious movies that made you think. Then you had John Singleton and the Hughes Brothers with films that were also socially conscious, but also showed real life amongst Blacks in the ghetto. However, to counter that, you had movies like this that showed Blacks in successful positions.

It was a little bit of everything all around, and with independent film extremely popular and mainstream (compared to 1992), I'm kinda surprised that it's not as much variety out there. I respect Tyler Perry's work, but it seems that so many movies with majority Black casts are all patterned after his stories; not as much of the variety I mentioned above.

Oh stewardess...I speak jive.

I agree. Even though he uses blacks in professional situtations. I think the Madea charecter overshadows his other works. Everyone assciates him with that charecter.

Im the Alpha and the Omoxus. The Omoxus and the Omega

Because Hollywood is too busy rehashing bad movies. To quote this movie, Hollywood has a handicapped sticker on its balls.

Hollywood is more averse nowadays to taking risks with more racially diverse casts (and thus stories) which comes from a belief, more than ever before, that audiences will only turn up if the cast is 100% white. Witness the recent black heist movie planned by Brett Ratner which will now go ahead with a caucasian cast.

I know right I was talking to my friend the other day about how you don't see any good black movies anymore, Tyler Perry movies suck and is so predictable. I miss John Singleton movies.
