Can't stand this movie

Because for me it epitomizes the hypocrisy of black women. It was fine to make a love story about a black pop vocalist engaged in a love affair with her white bodyguard(and many black women loved this movie). But had it been the other way around, with say Denzel Washington playing the dual role of bodyguard/lover for a white pop singer like Madonna, black women would have lost their minds.

The truth is that black women have ALWAYS had issues with brothers dating/marrying white women, but when it's the other around, then I suppose it's ok.

It seems to me that you are the one with issues. Chill, get a shrink, take a walk in the forest, listen to the birds ...

reply

..and go to hell and stay there. I just spout truth.

reply

I agree with you. I'm also not surprised someone responded that you need a shrink. Call a black woman out on anything, and you are a crazy idiot.

reply

yeah I think chris rock did a bit on it, like this exact same subject and using Denzel as an example in the 00's sometime

I found this film stiff and stilted. Whatever was supposed to be between Houston and Costner simply did not ring true. There was simply NO chemistry.

The entire premise was rather phony. So were the other actors. This one should never have been released. Yuck! Glad that I rented it instead of paying full price.

Ditto! No chemistry, unlikeabLe characters. There was nobody and nothing to care about. And I really hated that the perpetrator turned out to be [spoiler withheld]. Too cliche.

I was really looking forward to this film, but it was just that bad.

I remember how Whitney Houston always wanted to get into movies. There was a lot of buzz that she would have a long career in films. But she was really terrible in it. She also complained afterward that acting was too hard, and she never wanted to do it again. (And then she went on to appear in a couple more films.)

reply

Its rare denzel even had a full black woman as a love interest in his movies. In flight it's a white woman. Get over yourself thug. Tommy loving piece of crap.

reply

Except in Training Day.

reply

I think it's a pretty descent movie, like a 6 out of 10.

reply

6/10 for me too. I actually just watched it for the first time. Okay as pure escapism, but hey I wasn't exactly expecting realism! 😊

reply

I thought it was pretty cool. Costner seemed like he was doing an homage to Steve McQueen in this movie. And Whitney was vulnerable and likable. They were good together, opposites that fell into each other’s worlds. I think they had a nice chemistry off-screen as well. Kevin’s words at Whitney’s funeral were beautiful.
