Bob Roberts doesn't make rich, privileged people feel responsible for their actions (i.e. society's 'winners' who are, in many cases, members of the lucky sperm brigade). But that also means he has to hold society's 'losers' responsible, etc for their unfortunate predicaments.
I think a lot of white, wealthy, heterosexual men resent liberals holding the people in power, which is by extension many of their own kind, to account. You can see this in the attitudes of many libertarians including Rush Limbaugh and Jeremy Clarkson who believe it is their divine right to be rich, drive fast gas-guzzling cars, and pay as little heed to political-correct niceties, including respect for women's, civil and gay rights, as possible.
But you are painting liberals as the good guys. That's not the message of Bob Roberts. It's a radical message that you won't hear from liberal Democrats who are almost as compromised by the military-industrial complex as conservative Republicans. You can't even get elected in this country if you go against the military-industrial complex. The message is that the country is run by the military and the CIA who run drugs and overthrow governments all over the world for their own rapacious capitalist acquisition. The evidence is documented and available but you might have to get it from people like Bugs Raplin or from radical alternative journals in specialized book shops that few people read like Covert Action Quarterly which I used to read (of course in the internet age things are different and it's much easier to avail oneself of alternative info). Also you'd have to put up with being tarred by the dreaded epithet, "conspiracy theorist", if you tried to tell anyone what you learned (recent documents were released concerning the CIA's strategies for dealing with "conspiracy theorists"). It's far outside of the conservative-liberal spectrum, although there were a handful of brave liberals who tried to take on the CIA such as Frank Church whose political career was subsequently destroyed by the CIA following the Church Committee Hearings. And let us not forget JFK who vowed to "splinter the CIA in a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds." We all know what happened there. They got to him first.
