It's easy to go down to hell

day and night gates of death stand wide. But to climb up again, to retrace one's steps back into open air, there lies a problem, the difficult task.

I always thought that this was philosophy of the character Virgil, combined with Charlie's shadow tale. But I didn't know that The Aeneid is an actual poem written by a guy named Virgilus written 300 B.C. something.

Go ahead, laugh at my ignorance.

Brilliant how Larry Ferguson connected this all.

No one here is laughing at your "ignorance" bc it is not ignorant- you just didn't know about it. It's actually by Virgil and those old epic "poems" are interesting to read so you should do yourself a favor and read them. The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer are good too. They all deal with the Trojan Horse from the Trojan War. That movie Troy with Brad Pitt is based on them. Also a good movie.

Actually, that is the exact definition of ignorance. People misuse the word ignorant, or ingnorance incorrectly all the time. Being ignorant of a subject is not a bad thing, it is an opportunity to learn something new. But, nobody should laugh about it.

Well if you really wanna argue semantics- to ignore means to refrain from noticing or to purposely disregard like when it is pointed out to you. If I told that person about the meaning of the movie and they chose to ignore what I was saying that is completely different from that person not even knowing it existed in the first place...

I understand what ignore means. Here is the definition for ignorance:

ig·no·rance
ˈiɡnərəns/
noun
lack of knowledge or information.

They both originate from the Latin word ignorae. But, ignorance is a state of being uninformed. .The word ignorant is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware and is often (incorrectly) used to describe individuals who deliberately ignore or disregard important information or facts.

Deliberate ignorance is very similar to ignore, but, ignorance is simply not having information on the subject.
