How long is the killing of the pig scene?

I can't stand to see animal killings on screen. How long does this film show the pig being killed?

reply

About 45 seconds for the whole real-time scene, but a portion of the same footage is re-played in slow motion for at least as long again.

If you can't stand to see animal killings on screen why would you even consider waching a film containing such material? And is the killing of a pig less acceptable than the killing of a human being? Oink if you agree.

reply

Oink, the pig was killed for real...why the girl's death was just acting.

reply

Oink, the pig was killed for real..

As are thousands upon thousands of pigs in the US EACH day. So getting bent out of shape over just one is patently silly.

PATENTLY silly.

I agree the scene was emotional and difficult to take, though. But so was the whole movie.

And while THAT girl's death wasn't real, there ARE girls killed her age all over the US. Often by their younger brother or someone else playing with guns (handguns, not slaughter stun guns - that's probably MUCH rarer).

Why? Because of the US's stupid obsession with the 2nd Amendment over ANYTHING else including common sense. Republicans, gotta love 'em - but I digress.

So if someone gets upset over the killing of ONE pic, are they also very active in the humane treatment of animals, and the vegetarian (or vegan) movement?

And up in arms (so to speak, I made a funny lol) over gun violence?

reply

Ass-wipe. Why don't you look into who is doing the killings with the guns? I don't think it's the Republicans. More like the thugs that you vote the same with.

reply

Seems I touched a nerve. The killings are done mainly by gun nuts. Most of those are Republican.

And it's a fact that it's the Republicans (the politicians bought by the NRA, spineless wimps who don't represent the people) that are obstructing attempts at commonsense gun control.

You started with the name calling, so obviously you lost the argument. Adieu...

Really. Names some sources! All the whack jobs that have killed people and made the news are liberals.

I'm stating common knowledge. I don't think this deserves more time than just one link:

You're going to dispute it and I see no sources from you so a) you're just <radio edit> in the wind and b) I don't give a <radio edit> what you think.

Got it? You're a right wing fanatic who name calls.

Bush ruined the US economy and therefore I'd be embarrassed to call myself a Republican or a Conservative. Period.

And I don't know what this has to do with the original thread.

reply

jabberttp, you are incorrect. So what if some Republicans are "gun nuts"? There is nothing illegal with owning as many guns as you want. In reality, it's the Democrats (inner city thugs) who do the most crime with guns. I can't believe how delusional you really are. I'm truly jealous of your ignorance.

reply

The problem is America's love affair with guns. That is caused by Republican gun nuts and idiotic lax gun laws. It is true there is too much gun violence also in the inner cities.

As far as calling me delusional, don't be an arse. I'm not in the mood for any conservative carp.

It's the Republicans who are consistently against commonsense gun control. And that is flocking up this great country of ours.

And don't get me started on the carp the Republicans did to our economy. No ignorance here. Sorry to disappoint..

"There's nothing illegal about owning as many guns as you want".

Well, yeah, that's sort of the problem here - slack gun control.

"In reality, it's the Democrats (inner city thugs) who do most of the crime with guns".

Inner city thugs are Democrats lol? Are they just eager voters or do they also run for some offices?

Hmmm, I guess inner city thugs keep electing Republican mayors into office? I've never seen that happen. Good logic, buddy. As a bonus, that goes with the definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

franzkabuki, you are one of the people that allows the government to take away your rights because you feel you cannot handle them. I am awarded the right to purchase firearms as a law abiding citizen and I will do so. By the way, disarming citizens is the easiest way for the government to control them. I refuse to be a sheep.

"I guess inner city thugs keep electing Republican mayors into office?"

You can guess what you want. What I guess is that 1) inner city thugs do not vote and 2) they're certainly not liberal (not that Democrats this day and age were terribly liberal in the first place, of course).

"One of the people that allows the government to take away your rights because you feel you cannot handle them".

Cannot handle what? A firearm lol? Well, I guess that can be mastered, given enough effort. Be that as it may though, I distinctly remember it having been GWBush and his clique that was intent on shutting down civil liberties on a much broader scale after 9/11.

"Disarming citizens is the easiest way for the government to control them".

Oh yeah? How exactly would owning a gun stop you from being excessively controlled? Will you fire your little pistol at a state official? Form a neighbourhood militia and go to war with the US Army? Sure, that would work out just dandy. It's incredible how naive people can be if they seriously believe owning a handgun makes any kind of difference whatsoever when it comes to being controlled and manipulated.

Why don't you watch the movie and find out? If you ask to have things described to you before, it sort of ruins their impact.

Some velvet morning when I'm straight...

reply

It's shown about 6 times throughout the movie. Each time it's played, Benny rewinds and watches it again in slow motion and the shot rings out louder. This happens about 3 times.

There is a delay in the time where the pig is shown, the 'gun' is aimed at the pig's head, a delay there as well... and then the pig is shot. So you can turn away and cover your ears well in advance of it actually being shot.

Right after the pig is shot, it's quite shocking how it collapses and looks so stunned. It also possibly trembles as well as it might not be completely dead yet.

reply

That's sick. And we are supposed to sit and watch as entertainment? If I was the Canne premiered this I would've set fire to the screen. After all, that is what Haneke wants anyways...

When I was in FFA in high school, we had to watch an entire videotape on the slaughter of pigs. It's actually quite a humane practice and, if done correctly, isn't very painful. Now, I can't be 100 percent sure of that because I'm not the pig getting butchered but common sense and rationale indicates that such a procedure is actually quite painless.

You beat me to this reply.

Same goes for film as a medium; it's not just for entertainment and Haneke is one the greatest champions of this.
