The baby-sitter

The baby-sitter is playing the piano singing Lady Marmalade while Rice and Ted are doing their homework, and she has Emily off somewhere else with a ball and Emily gets out and falls into the pool and nearly drowns. The baby-sitter tells Alice if Emily stayed where she put her, it wouldn't have happened. My question is why did the baby-sitter put Emily somewhere else? Why not have all three kids in the same room?

reply

To add a help factor for Emily, I guess.

reply

Kids that young will wander off if you don't keep a proper eye on them. It happens.

reply

Yeah, but the baby sitter said 'if Emily had stayed where I put her' which I don't know about the rest of y'all, but that sounds to me like it wasn't with the other kids.

reply

All I could say is that woman has no business babysitting. I can't believe that she let Emily play around by the pool. She could have drowned, for God's sake! I thought that there was something creepy about that woman.

I could also tell that she was stuck in the 70s because:

A) She was playing a disco song on the organ
B) She drives an AMC Pacer (you can see it during the scene where Alice is picking up the kids and interrogating her. That pacer looked just like the one from Wayne's World.)

reply

Perhaps, since Ryce and Ted were doing homework, and Emily is in a grade that doesn't give homework, and maybe she complained about the music being boring, so the babysitter allowed her to go play in the yard--never realizing she might go near the pool: hence her reaction when hearing Emily's in THE POOL!!!

For some reason I felt bad for the baby sitter. The reason being is this, I... hate... dogs. I found the family not likeable (except George) and found myself rooting for the villains. Odd yes, but that's how it happened with this movie.

It's Laurel, not Lauren.

Laurel Cronin.

I hear that, that always used to freak me out when I was a kid...it was always such a relief to see Beethoven come to the rescue.

reply

That baby-sitter deserved to get fired.

reply

As reckless as she was with Emily, she deserved to get bitten.

reply

I agree. Emily was the one who needed to be kept a close eye on not the others. She should have been watching Emily instead of playing the piano and singing with the other kids.Plus she was singingLady Marmalade at that! Which is WAY inapporirate for a kid to be singing along too!

I speak my mind and if you don't like it then that's just too damn bad!!!

reply

I did not like the baby-sitter and was so happy she'd gotten fired, I could tell the two older kids did not like her and was so happy when Ryce got pissed off at the babysitter for wanting to keep the ordeal as their little secret, plus I could not stand her singing voice when she was singing along yet I do like the song that was popular in the 1970s

reply

George and Alice should have let Ryce babysit Ted and Emily. I'm sure Ryce would have been more responsible than that babysitter Alice left them with.

I wonder where in the world did alice find that woman she hired?! Of all the babysitters in the world she chose that lazy bitch. Yes she should have had all 3 kids in the same room. The younger children are more important to be watchin cuz you never no what can happen. I cant believe she had the nerve to say "If emily had stayed where I put her none of this would have happened." Uh you should have had emily with you where u could keep an eye on her. I also agree that they didnt need a sitter, and yea Ryce should have been the one to be the babysitter. I cant believe that crazy lady actually had the nerve to ask emily to keep what happened a secret!

reply

That's right. Not only did Emily almost drown because of the babysitter's negligence, but the woman actually had the gall to try to blame Emily, and even the mother, instead of accepting her own responsibility/blame. Alice fired her, and she should. Any person as irresponsible as that definitely deserves to get fired. The woman should not have allowed the little girl to go outside the house, or even leave the room where she and the other two kids were. Her attention should have been entirely on the kids, instead of being distracted by singing on the piano. And after Beethoven rescued Emily, the woman dared to try to keep it a secret, or to blame it on Emily for not staying "where she put her," or blame the mother's parenting by saying, "If you ask me, these kids need a little discipline," instead of accepting total responsibility. That said, can you blame Ryce and Alice for being angry with her?

reply

Or she could've been arrested for child endangerment.

reply

i agree. kids are like puppies, they wander around and get into trouble. she should have realised that telling a child to sit and stay would be pointless

reply

And about the look on the babysitter's face when Alice fired her, she should have expected it.

reply

I agree, she shoulda been in the house with the other older ones. Idk why she was allowed to be outside by the pool.

reply

The sitter not only is one careless woman, but she never left the 70's due to this: AMC Pacer, and a disco song on her organ. Beethoven did save Emily. The sitter deserved to lose her job because she kept downplaying her actions.
