Arguably, the biggest load of tosh ever committed to celluloid!

Hadn't seen this film in ages, until it was shown on UK television last week and it was every bit as bad as I remembered.

The unintentionally hilarious bits were all present and correct, such as the then 48 year old Michael Douglas hitting the night club in a 'V' necked sweater trying so desperately to look young, cool and hip. The constant double entendre reference to Douglas's character as "shooter" was so laboured as to be laughable, not to mention the woefully awful dialogue in general.

The sex scenes between Douglas and Stone were just as ludicrous. The scene between Douglas and Tripplehorn was just as offensive.

This is a film very much of its time. Thank goodness they DON'T make 'em like that any more! I still want my money back.

And what is it about the sex scenes you found ludicrous or offensive?

reply

You're crazy, I find the sex scenes extremely erotic, I love Jeanne Tripplehorn..

reply

I love Jeanne Tripplehorn..

God, yes...her scenes were as hot as Stone's in their own way. She was the "good girl" getting nasty and Stone was the "bad girl" getting nasty. That contrast was one of my favorite aspects of the film.

I just saw it for the first time yesterday, and yeah. Total garbage.

reply

If you think this movie is garbage you definitely haven't seen a lot of films..

reply

agreed

It's an over-ripe, over the top, incredibly pulpy thriller, but let's not kid ourselves that movies today are any better. They're not.

Wish they were.

Surely the biggest load of tosh, as you put it, committed to celluloid would be Spice Skanks the Snuff Movie or S Club: How NOT to make a torture porn movie.

reply

LMAO I went to see this when it came out just for the sex scenes, I was 18 so of course I loved it. Today I love this movie even more so but for everything but the sex scenes. They're necessary for the movie but they're not offensive in anyway. This movie is excellent with or without the sex scenes. It's a crime they don't make them like this anymore, we would be better off if they did. I'm sorry you can't appreciate this.

reply

The scenes are erotic, but every scene where the characters are not having sex in, and are actually trying to develop a story, sucks.

reply

I'm sorry for you too, oh well. What's your favorite movie of all time?

reply

There’s something crude, unsophisticated and cartoonish about Verhoeven’s style, but the central performances and twists and turns make it work, alongside the eye-popping sex and violence.
