couldn't sit through entire movie...

boring, planet earth is much more entertaining

i bet that means i'm pretty shallow!

Not going to be everyones cup of tea I must admit.. When I read the synopsis of this movie I too thought it would be boring and slow (which many others will no doubt find it..)

I however was most definitely surprised by the experience of watching this docufilm. It's beautifully crafted music accompanied by the landscapes, cultures and sometimes shocking scenes had an almost hypnotic effect on me throughout the films journey!

You're the only person who can properly judge how shallow / deep you are. No one else has the right to call anyone shallow or deep.

In my opinion, both Planet Earth and Baraka are extraordinary. The difference is the human element...or I should say the "artist" element. The puppeteer in charge of the operation.

PE has a voiceover, a godlike figure guiding the viewer through the Earth.

Baraka, though, just surrounds you and gives you the choice to enter its world or not. There's no comforting voice or tour guide. The forces of Baraka invade your space; you stay in or get out.

If you thought it boring, so be it. I won't judge, but I will ask how big was the screen on which you watched it?

Hey guys, I think this kid's right. Lets stop liking things that (s)he can't sit through.

Because "boring" is an objective criticism.

Movies on IMDB are not overrated, you're just of the minority that doesn't bloody LIKE THEM!

I am actually the opposite. I couldn't look away and I didn't want the experience to end.

So funny how differently people react to things like this.

"So.. I once looked at a hedge. Whats your point?"

You don't have to be sorry, people have different tastes :)

Can't help noticing this distinction:

Planet Earth voice-over (narration) makes it didactic. By definition, it challenges you to submit to its doctrines, abandoning your own thoughts.

Baraka leaves your free will intact.

It's just a clarification. Did you think about that?

@gonemoab

I agree entirely, Planet Earth was an excellent series but viewers were very much guided throughout by the narration. We don't necessarily need to have every detail explained when watching nature programmes and movies, Baraka more or less leaves us to our own devices which is a pleasant change and much more involving for the viewer.

This means something, this is important.
