the scene where he finally gets to be with his azucena was really daring. i mean, the actor is clearly a minor like 14 or something so i don't know how he was able to film that. Or if someone allowed him to do it. Maybe they changed him for a double but you can see his face in a lot of it.

Talking strictly about the movie, in my opinion, incest and statutory rape (Toto was a minor and Azucena was obviously older) were portrayed as "ok". I mean, in the end he was very happy because he finally got laid, and everyone continued with their lives as if nothing ever happened. To me, knowing that the kind of incest shown in the movie (between cousins) is very common (unfortunately), I would have "believed" more the movie if Azucena was at least his age. However, putting those two things together (incest and rape) made the story less believable. It was extremely slow, too. Again, this is my humble opinion.
shareThis film was a lot more mature that I had expected from a "loss of virginity" type of movie. The sex scene was tastefully done; the laughs were never cheap or completely predictable; the changing relationships between Toto and Azucena, Toto and his mother, etc., were all developed with subtlety. It was all done warmly and affectionately, without titillation. No masterpiece, just a sweet, well-made, memorable movie.
shareActually, the young actor who played Toto was 16 and 1/2 years of age, according to the IMDB website. Perhaps that's the age of consent in Mexico. This movie really doesn't show him doing anything really sexual, does it?
