Why does this movie and blood in blood out have the white dude get jealous and have the Don killed? Was that based on true events?

This movie wasnt based on true events for the simple fact that Olmos' character in real life was never killed. One of the founding members of the Mexican Mafia is white which is where J.D. comes from.

Actually, I just took a class about the prisons, and we got to go on a tour of about 7 prisons in California, Folsom being one of them. While on the tour, i learned alot about this film. Olmos' Character was killed in real life. Olmos' character in the film was supposed to be that of Rodolfo "Cheyenne" Cadena, one of the founders of the Mexican Mafia. The only two differences about the film and the events that happened in real life were that Cadena was killed by "La Nuestra Familia", and not the Mexican Mafia. La Nuestra Familia at the time was starting to break away from the Mexican Mafia, as mentioned in the film. And not everything took place at Folsom Prison, as portrayed in the film. Most of it took place at Tracy and his death happened at Chino, not Folsom. Folsom is a more interesting prison though, so that's why they chose to film there. Other than that, just about every other aspect of the film is dead on.

That's really interesting to me, if you don't mind gsrtype2001 what class was this called? What school offered it to you? I've taken some amazing philosophy classes that kind of skirt themselves into that area but not to such an extreme.

The class is CJA 430, I took it this past semester at San Diego State University, taught by Dr. Paul Sutton. 430 is more of a Prison Tour, but you still have to do work and you get graded on it. He teaches a few other courses also, which deals more with the Criminal Justice system. Sutton's made a few documentaries about prisons, and life within them.

Here's a link to his website, and on it, a link to a new documentary he's making about the the prison tour i was talking about.

Sure he was, but not by his own members.

Cadena was killed at the Palm Hall at the Chino Reception center. Cadena and two other Eme soldiers who came to his aide was stabbed 50 times and thrown to the main floor of Palm Hall where he was stabbed another 20 times by a second team of Familia killers. The death of Rudy Cadena sparked an unprecedented era of violence in the California correctional system which over the next year would claim the lives of 31 prisoners. The carnage and animosity from his murder still exist 29 years after his death as La Eme still has a kill on site order for any member of La Nuestra Familia. Should a member fail to attack a known enemy, he can count on being killed himself.
