Bishop II - android or human?

Is 'Biship II' supposed to be a human or an android? I know we see him bleed after he gets hit with a wrench/iron bar but his ear/side of his head seems to be hanging off in a pretty dramatic way. Maybe he is supposed to be more advanced and has red 'blood' rather than the canned milk of earlier versions?

According to Lance Henrickson he was human and according to the script he was human.

You're old enough to kill, but not for voting....

He yells out "I'm not a droid!" after getting struck in the Assembly Cut.

reply

Human, all the way. Confirmed by the script, crew, make-up, Lance himself, the novel and the line "I'm not a droid!".

Digging to the rhythm and the echo of a solitary siren.

And his reaction to getting struck by the wrench/pipe (Assembly Cut only) - he winces in pain and it takes him a while to regain his composure, so based on what we know and what has been revealed, Bishop 2 is human.

reply

To be fair, saying "I'm not a droid" doesn't mean he's not. I agree he's human, but he saying that doesn't mean anything. He could be programmed to lie.

Never trust a black man named "Chip."

What's the point of him being human? Any revelation or importance in the whole story?

reply

It was ment to show that some people from the company probably did have good intentions intstead of the entire company being evil employees. despite his good intentions Riply knew the creature was too dangours to study. By being human it added a moral dilima to the story in that maby it was worth the risk as the creature would only be studied and ripley had a chance to live, but as an android we would know he's a stone cold company man looking for a bioweapon and theres no dramatic pause for indecision by ripley from jumping.

To me it makes much more sense to think that he was an android. I mean, why would the guy who designed the Bishop android be sent into some faraway planet to get some alien specimen? It's more sensible to send an android to do that. Also, is that supposed to be a common practice to design company androids after company employees?

Then there's also the Alien vs Predator movie which suggest clearly that the human-Bishop lived several centuries before. (I know many people don't take AvP seriously).

reply

Where in the movie does it say he's an employee?
He could be a descendent of 'Charles Bishop Weyland' from AvP, and he could be a senior partner in Weyland/Yutani, so why wouldn't 'Bishop' be modelled on him?

If those pen pushers up at city hall don't like it,well, they swivel on this middle digit!

reply

Isn't that even more reason to not put him in harms way?

reply

Maybe being accompanied by that squad was thought more than adequate safety precautions. After all the company does underestimate the Alien.

In Star Trek Data and the emergency hologram units were modelled after their creators.

reply

I just watched it. I'm pretty sure he was bleeding red after he was twatted on the head.

reply

If he is human, the way the left side of his head was peeled off with his ear sticking sideways was very strange. It doesn't look like the kind of injury a human would recover from in a matter of seconds.

He was bleeding red, but what's stopping the company from just changing the android fluids from white to red?

reply

Agreed, not human
