Saw this on opening weekend

I was so excited, left the theater completely disappointed. To this day it was one of the biggest mistakes in movie making history to kill off Hicks & Newt. I'm so happy they're finally going to rectify their mistake with Neill Blomkamp's new Alien movie. I think Alien 3 is a good movie, I don't hate it but do think they got it wrong.

I've only had something like that happen to me when I was in the theater to see Batman & Robin and Virus. The bulb burnt out during Virus and Batman & Robin the picture went blurry for like 30 minutes before they fixed it.

Sure that wasn't due to tears in your eyes?

Pretty sure, maybe I can go back and check?

Agreed. There's much to admire in Alien 3, especially the far superior assembly cut, but wasting all of the Aliens survivors including sealing Ripley's fate before the story even begins is unforgiveable. Obnoxious writers, a frightened and bullying studio, and an egomaniacal star really fúcked this film, and ultimately the series. Credit to Fincher for making something surprisingly focused and powerful from the mess - for all its flaws the film can stand proud as one of the most relentlessly bleak and nihilistic mainstream films ever.

I remember watching "Terminator3: Rise of the Machines." The first 4-5 minutes of the movie, there was no sound. After the problem was fixed, you could feel the excitement had already left the theater.

The film lost me before the opening credits ended.

reply

So did I. The beginning kind of jarred me out of the film for a bit but it was an effective movie. I was engrossed in what was happening. whatever problems it has, this is easily the ballsiest sequel to a blockbuster so far.
