How didn't Jafar recognise Aladdins face when he disguised himself as Prince Ali?

Or atleast didn't think he looks familiar?

reply

Maybe because he didn't take much notice of Aladdin the street urchin other than a means to an end.

reply

The clothes and the context have both so dramatically changed, not to mention the fact that Jafar assumes the street rat is dead, PLUS Jafar seems so contemptuous that he'd forget a person as soon as they no longer were useful to him. I get it.

reply

Aladdin did look familiar to him, but he didn't believe he could have survived.

reply

Just as Stratego said, Jafar was curious to know where "Prince Ali" came from, likely because he recognized a vauge familiarity about him, even though he believed Aladdin was dead.

reply

Jafar didn't know it was Aladdin until after he attempted to have him drowned. When he saw the lamp sticking out of his hat in Jasmine's room. Prior to that, I think there was a jealousy or need for Ali out of the way because he had just begun his plot to make Jasmine marry him.

To answer the question, tho someone did above, you'd be amazed what a bath, fresh/rich clothes, posture and other things can do to change one's appearance. It's like Superman.

reply

i agree i think stratego is wrong. aladdin didn't look similar to him, jafar only knew it was aladdin when he saw the lamp. he was jealous because "prince ali" was a young, rich, good looking prince who could potentially stop jafar from marrying jasmine himself.

"i agree i think stratego is wrong. aladdin didn't look similar to him"

Actually YOU are wrong. I said he looked FAMILIAR to Jafar, not SIMILAR. And when you watch the scene where Jafar first meets and questions Prince Ali, you see him look at Ali very suspiciously. No need to distrust the guy who made a big entrance unless there was this nagging feeling at the back of his mind.

"Jafar didn't know it was Aladdin until after he attempted to have him drowned."

Nobody said he KNEW it was Aladdin. Please pay attention.

reply

BECAUSE...MOVIE.

reply

Oh, I think he recognized him, but he pretended he didn't so Aladdin would think he his disguise had worked. Jafar was a very cunning character, which is one reason he lasted so long in the royal court. He didn't get there and stay in power by being stupid.

reply

He may have felt Aladdin seemed familiar or something was off about him but he did not recognize him and hid it to trick Aladdin. He had absolutely no idea who Aladdin was until after the stunt in Jasmine's room. the next scene after escaping the guards is him cracking up in the dungeon and yelling at Iago that Prince Ali is that 'street urchin, Aladdin'. If he had known from the beginning, he would have been plotting for a way to get the lamp from him from the very beginning (and he would have known Aladdin had the lamp considering he knew Aladdin was poor and would not have had that kind of transformation so quick).
