Why does this movie say it was made in 1992? How can that be? Aileen Wuornos was not murdered by the government unit 2002.

I only saw his second movie Aileen Wuornos: Life and Death of a Serial Killer which goes all the way through to her execution date.
I think she was arrested in 1991, so maybe this first movie is just Nick getting his first interviews with Aileen? That is what I think. His second movie (2003) goes to the bitter end.

Yeah, the first documentary took place, I think, a couple of months after Aileen was first given the death penalty. She was on death row however for over 10yrs after this first feature was released.
Nick then did another documentary with her in the last few weeks before she died, that one was "Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer".

Dixie_84 - The first, 1992 documentary was originally released as "Aileen Wurnos: The Selling of a Serial Killer". However, as I explain below, the first documentary was "re-released" on DVD (it was previously only available on VHS, which I own); and the second documentary was given a "push" much larger than that normally given to documentaries; both in 2003. The first one had the subtitle "The 1992 Interviews", and the second had "The 2002 Interviews".

The 2nd set of interviews, "Aileen...Killer:The 2002 Interviews" was Nick Broomfield's interviews with Aileen in the months right up to her execution on October 9, 2002. She acted more and more insane (I'm not a mental health professional, but this was the conclusion reached in the documentary) in court hearings, interviews (including those with Broomfield), and letters to the Department Of Justice (DOJ) as her execution date approached. However, in one important scene - in which Aileen thinks Nick's camera is off - she admits she's faking this mental state because she hates being on death row and wants to die.

This documentary was given much larger publicity when "Monster", the (fictional) film with Charlize Theron portraying Aileen, was released on DVD. The 2003 documentary and the fictional movie were even released "bound in plastic" as a "2-DVD pack".

I just saw both on Aussie Netflix. The second one rehashed a lot of he material from the first one but it was good to get the updated perspective. Now that lawyer - whatever possessed her??
