Hard to believe I actually liked this movie as a kid

Wow!!!!!! I musta been a crack baby.

I love this film, I'm not a crack baby.

Seeing this now through adult eyes it is very cheesy but I can see why this would have appealed to me as a kid. The three of them were perfectly cast and the fight scenes are still pretty impressive, especially considering how young they were.

I wasn't a crack baby

The movie was pretty good to a early 1990s 11 year old boy who likes Karate and Home Alone.

But times have changed and I have aged.

I don't think I'd like this as much as I did back then if this was 1993 and I don't think I would like this in 2015 if I was 11 years old.

I just recently decided to pop the original 3 Ninjas movie into my DVD/Blu-ray player to kill some time. I haven't seen this movie since 1992 (23 years), so I figured it would be a nice trip down memory lane.

To my surprise, I could not believe how incredibly cheesy and corny this movie comes off as. To my younger self, watching this on both the big screen on August 7th, 1992, and again on VHS with a 25" CRT SDTV, it seemed pretty incredible at the time. My friends and I would even reenact scenes from the movie because we loved it. Today, not so much.

It's hilarious how a bunch of kids with extensive "karate" training can fiercely take down a bunch of bad guys who are practically almost two to three times their size, as well as an aging and out of shape older man along with an incompetent FBI agent as a father.

Don't get me wrong, the best part of this movie was actually remembering and realizing how hilarious it is nowadays compared to 23 years ago.

I still thoroughly enjoyed this movie and will probably follow up on the sequels (3 Ninjas Kick Back (1994) & 3 Ninjas Knuckle Up (1995), NOT 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain (1998)) whenever I can.

It's too bad that they're only on DVD and not Blu-ray. I would have loved to see this movie again in high definition. I doubt the companies and studios involved would even make a profit off of a Blu-ray version.

Damn this movie is so classic, sucks to be you guys

I’m saying. Of course it’s cheesy.

Haha I just came on here to say the same.
I loved this as a kid but I've just rewatched it and Jesus Christ....

It's truly awful. Having seen and enjoyed this movie dozens of time as a kid I tried to revisit it recently, hoping the nostalgia would make it watchable at the very least. Nope. Had to stop it after less than 15 minutes to preserve my false childhood memories of it being an awesome movie.

I agree. My 10 year old self believed this was the coolest film ever but watching it as an adult it is hard to sit through . There are childhood films I can revisit and still enjoy very much like Problem Child and Home alone and others that makes me cringe a little haha This is one of those films . However no matter how crappy it is through adult eyes it still has a special place in my heart because my 10 year old self loved it so much.

I prefer 7 Lucky Ninja Kids to this movie. 7LNK aged better.

I never stopped watching it so I can't have the experience of coming back to it.. it's still the same to me dammit

“It’s still the same to me dammit” - what’s that a reference to?
