Spaceship Explanation?

Was the spaceship ever explained? Wondered if I'd missed something (was 11 when it started in UK) if I'd stopped watching it, but checking the episodes/stories I do remember watching all of them. Also nothing about the spaceship mentioned in episode summaries or anywhere on the 'net I can find!

Has to be either:
1. 'Master race' of ancient humans who laid their genetic seed.
2. Future time-travelling Tomorrow People.
3. Just aliens (who for some reason had a ship that cares about evolving humans..?)

Or it was going to be explained and wasn't before it was cancelled.

It was a spaceship that had crashed into a beach the "South Pacific Ocean".

They talk about it in Episode 2 and it was waiting thousands of years for people to evolve.

And it talked to them with telepathy. I've just watched all 5 stories on DVD this week.
