The actress that played Nell. She was fantastic (especially in the 'Lighthouse Blues' episode - IMDB doesn't list a date of birth or any other details for her though :(

You're thinking of Bunney Brooke, the original Nell. Bunney Brooke played Nell in the first and second series.

And no, she's dead. Cancer.
