Wonderful Series

I had seen some of this years ago, but finally watched the entire series. Wonderful is the only word to describe this. I've watched many similar types of "travel" related shows and this ranks among the best I've ever seen.

Critics will often point out that because camera crews are along that travel can't be that hard or dangerous as depicted, but what the camera shows will often point out just how unpredictable it can be. I don't want to give away any spoilers about some of the dangerous events that did occur here, but suffice it to say, it was very real. A couple of instances made me think twice about dreams I've had to take similar journeys. While there were splendid vistas to behold, interesting people and cultures along the way, there were also political situations that made some parts of the trip uncertain, in regards to personal safety.

In particular, while viewing the segment in Antartica, I sensed discomfort and anxiety among some of the participants and I'm sure they wondered why they did it in the first place.

But overall, as Michael pointed out, it was worth it and I thank him for presenting this captivating journey to us.

Couldn't agree more. This and Michael's other travel series kept me totally motivated to travel the world during the years I was saving up for it. So many people dream of big travels but end up getting trapped in career, bills, domesticity, buying stuff, etc. and end up not following the dream. Pole to Pole more than any other really fueled my travel lust in the 90s until I could chuck it in and travel to my heart's content. Now 20 years and 70-some countries later I watched it again today and remembered vividly how much it influenced me. Otherwise I might now be living in suburban hell, selling AT&T dial tone and paying off a gas-guzzling SUV between trips to Walmart. Cheers Michael.
