Favorite episodes?

I just watched the episode where Maxine stops Jill's father and gives him a ticket for running a stop sign and a ticket for disorderly conduct. What a great episode! So many angry accusations, uncovered secrets, it was great. I also love the episode in which Kimberly and Zack defend Wambaugh when his rabbi wants to kick him out of the temple.

Those are my two favorites I think.

There was no reason to risk the long distance lines. They'd listen you know.

The one you mentioned with Kimberly and Zack defending Wambaugh is an incredible episode. Absolutely one of my favorites. Another favorite of mine is the one just before that, when Kimberly was kidnapped by Jimmy's former partner. Lou Gossett Jr. was nothing short of terrific.

I love Be My Valentine from season 1 with Cupid. Nice little twist at the end. It was great. Also the Valentine episode in season 2, where Max was feeding Carter lines and dialog in order to talk to the weeping widow. Toward the end, Wambaugh had a great line - "She woke up next to Carter. What woman wouldn't kick herself?"

The Green Bay Chopper is one of my favorites.

The Pilot was incredible. One of the truly GREAT pilots of any television shows. Pilots aren't usually that great, but this one was.

I love the Season 3 finale when Reverend Gary Barrett was gunned down in his own confessional.

The Dancing Bandit from Season 2 (unfortunately not available online yet) is terrific. When the group entered the school wearing the Wizard of Oz costumes from the Pilot episode, the Tin Man looks at the hole in the suit and says, "Look, the tin smith didn't forget to give me a heart, he just ripped it right out."

Frog Man was a pretty good one.

Rights of Passage in Season 1 was great! When the local Indian community declared war on the town because the town was about to put a golf course over their cemetary. That one was very good. Also Ginny opposed the use of HGH in order to treat shortness. At one point she says, "It's going to be pretty tough to find a short Indian in this town."

Season 2 when Matthew and Zack retaliated against a high school kid who gave Matthew a swirly. They shot a potato at him from a 'spud gun' that ended up paralizing the kid. Then the high school kid's younger brother came to school with a gun and shot Matthew. That one is terrific.

'Blue Christmas' from Season 2 when Kimberly's friend was caught with drugs at school and the FBI wanted to put her away for 10 years. At the end the DA and Brock both lied about losing the evidence in order to spare her. Very compelling episode. I'll think of more.

That was a great episode! I love how the violence just spins out of control so quickly. I usually think of this show as quirky and funny, but this was a very serious (and instructive) episode on the dangers of not reining in bad behavior early enough--and the tragic consequences that can follow.

I also loved the episode (not sure what it was called) where the black children from Green Bay were integrated into the school. That was such a memorable image having the sheriff's department in blue facing off against the national guard in green, one of the most memorable things I've seen on TV, on film.

My all-time favorite episode is "High Tidings", where Kimberly's family catches her in bed with her boyfriend. Sheriff Jimmy is so funny when he grounds Kimberly until she's 30 and says Christmas is cancelled "forever."

And you gotta love Wambaugh: "I'm very good with penile cases. My brother-in-law is a moyle. He makes circumcisions. He has malpractice insurance. He has a two inch deductible."

God, Lake, you're a DEK encyclopedia. Okay, how about the episode where Waumbaugh calls out Maxine for her "malfunctioning genitalia." Can you give us the context?

That was the one where she arrests her former therapist, Danny Shrieve, after he attempts to start a sexual relationship with her. I think it was episode 3 of season 2. Waumbaugh is of course representing him, and the reference is to the fact Maxine cannot, um, "finish".

"Green Bay Chopper", because it was the first episode I ever saw, way back in '93.

"Be My Valentine" was a good one too, along the same lines with Max hunting a serial killer.

I was a fan of different story arcs, like the whole Brian Latham case in season 3.

I've seen very little of season 4, but I recall liking "Another Saturday Night" which is almost never re-broadcast in syndication because of some content.

The one where Matthew was shot was intense. Also, the episodes where the parents want to freeze the boy and also the one when Howard Buss is shot were also pretty good. Lots of them were good.
