Jill driving anyone else crazy???

I just saw all the episodes again, and I have to admit that Jill is driving me absolutely crazy! Was there ever a more conceited, self-righteous woman than Jill Brock? She is always meddling in other people's business, eavesdropping on her children's conversations and then giving Kimberly a hard time about what she said to Matt and Zack (one episode that comes to mind is when Kimberly told her brothers that she did not believe there is a God, and Jill who was listening behind the door got terribly upset (what happened to freedom of religion?)

Not to mention all the times Jill starts a sentence by saying: "I know it's none of my business", only to go on to ask all kinds of indiscreet questions and try to tell people how to live their lives. I really find her character quite intolerable, but maybe that's only a cultural thing?

I am a European myself and I honestly don't know if you have to be an American to truly understand this show (don't get me wrong, I like it a lot and find it very enjoyable to watch, but there are simply so many things I don't understand), but to me it is just hypocrisy a lot of the time; Jill constantly going on about being a scientist, but at the same insisting on the existence of God and insisting her children worship him. And all that talk about setting an example, not talking about sex in front of children, etc...it makes me think of Little House on the Prairie but, back then, those were the values of society. But hadn't those values changed in the 1990s? And the minister, Henry Novotny...sometimes, I have to remind myself that he is NOT reverend Alden i Walnut Grove in the 1880s, because his values and beliefs seem more consistent with those of another century. And I was truly shocked when Wambaugh had his wife arrested for adultery, claiming that it was a crime, and the sheriff actually had her arrested???

Another comment, just a detail really, but an intriguing one: as a doctor with her own practice, I would imagine that Jill needs to see a certain number of patients every day to make a living? However, she seems to be present at every trial. I have been wondering how a doctor can take that much time off to attend trials, instead of attending to her patients...?

There are a few points of yours that I don't completely agree with, however I just finally finished the whole series (including seasons 3 and 4) and pretty much everything Jill does in Season 4 is appalling, unnecessary, and obnoxious. Season 4 is where her so-called liberal mindset and her not-so-secretly conservative, or even at times bigoted, points of view come into major conflict; not to mention the presence of her generally irrational and irritating reactions to absolutely everything. I can't help but think the amplification of her worse qualities plus the relative absence of Holly Marie Combs' character played a major role in the show's cancellation.

Jill drives me nuts due to her inconsistency of truly to be both a liberal whacko and a good Christian when the latter clearly is not that important to her.

Yeah because being a Christian means you have to be a racist homophobic *beep* who votes for the fearmongers because they are afraid of everyone who's not Christian.
You got it, it's in the Bible.

The left does more fearmongering against Christians. Look at this campaign, it's negative fear mongering on both sides. But it's easier to just jump to stereotypes about somebody who disagrees with you, isn't it? It lets you avoid learning.

The one episode that comes to mind that defined her absolute arrogance and selfisk ness is season 3 e11 where the town masseuse was killed and she became jealous when she found out her daughter was also getting massages.

I hear you but honestly, is there *any* character on that show that isn't insufferable? They're all full of themselves, self-righteous, ego-centric *beep*

Then again, David Kelley said over and over that Rome was supposed to be a micro-America so...

I'm re-watching this for the first time in 20 years and I just finished episode 7 where Jill decides to run for mayor and she's kind of a total b the whole episode. I mean, she chastises her own husband just a few episodes ago because the whole town wanted him to be mayor but once she got the backing of 5 women in her women's club, all the reservations she had about Jimmy running for mayor are suddenly gone? And what kind of platform is she running on, what does she plan to do, what is her game plan for Rome besides becoming mayor to help further the interest of her women's group? Then let's not forget that she declares that Jimmmy hated his ex-wife right in front of Jimmy's daughter... I haven't seen this show in a long time but from what I've seen so far it seems like this woman is gonna continue being a pain in the az.

She DID come across as too liberal at times.

I don't care how "liberal" she was, she can be as liberal as she wants but I'm watching "The Body Politic" and Jill says she thinks the plug should be pulled on this woman, when her son asks "What about the baby" and Jimmy responds with "Good question" Jill responds and acts like Jimmy can't have his own opinion on the subject. What a b.

I think it's not quite that. While his later shows devolved into leftist soapboxes, PF actually did try to have balanced conversations to some degree. (not always successful) The problem came that DEK didn't really anchor the characters in positions but had them fluctuate from episode to episode. Not as a matter of growth but just based on what made for the best drama. It's the show's weakness, IMO, in that there's not a consistency or an arc of ideology.
