Mulberry Days

Did the phrase 'Mulberry Days' mean anything special before this series or was it a phrase invented by the series?

Our PBS station just started running this again. At first, I just thought it was too weird, but I've started really enjoying it and tearing up quite a bit. It is really a lovely show.

I'm in the US and I've never heard the phrase before, but it could possibly mean something in England.

Personally, I've assumed that they just used the phrase to indicate that Mulberry was around, putting his mark on the current days.

I love the show too, and was very happy when they released it on DVD a few years back. I'll be even happier if they actually finish the series!
