Why can't Mulberry date?

After Mulberry's date with Jocelyn his father is quite upset. But why? He (Death) had an affair with Spring, so why can't Mulberry? Is it because Jocelyn is mortal?

Hmm...Maybe because Spring wasn't human?

I'm guessing that the immortal can not date or marry the living. For one thing, Mulberry probably wouldn't age normally.
