what!?*spoiler*

that's it?the series end when Ms.Farnaby's "pretty" sister says "Mulberry's the deathly presence!"!?
NOOOOOOOO! That's not fair! How could they do this? *cries*
I wish it had gone on longer, it was simplistic yet brilliant!
I wonder.....would it make fans mad if somone tried to redo and then finish the story?

I think there is a previous post stating that there was a third series planned, but never realized. I think it was stated that Mulberry got another extension from his father. I think it's fun for others to speculate on how the series might have ended. Each person can have it his/her own way! It's amazing that this delightful series has sparked such an interest so many years later.

I see. An extension....
I ask if people will get mad if they tried to redo the show because my friend and i am in (or should i say are trying to get in) the film industry, therefore giving us a sort of reinforcement/back up in approaching BBC about the remake or continuation of Mulberry. Also i am a writer so...you can imagine me asking them to at least tell me how it all ended so I could at least make it a novel.

Connections+resources =power
Unfortunately, i don't have either yet.

I heard from Geraldine McEwan that Miss Farnaby was supposed to die at the end of the third series (she didn't say what happened to Mulberry, though). Apparently some idiot at the BBC decided to cut it off after the second series even though it was only supposed to run for three series anyway. I've been hoping that now Miss McEwan has become such a household name for Marple (which is probably why they released Mulberry on DVD just a few months ago even though the series is over 10 years old), someone will novelise the whole story and put it out in the form of an illustrated book.

I just discovered this program on Netflix and then purchased it myself. I too have thought how it should've ended. On the DVD there is an interview with Geraldine and Karl (quite lovely to see how she dresses herself--)they both alluded to the 'fantasy' and romanticism of the story. I like to think Rose did die but her next big adventure was as Mulberry's partner helping others to cross over. she could be the tough one when he got all sentimental.

reply

LOL, JuliaH that would make a cute new series... Mulberry being all soft while Ms. Farnaby being the sensible one telling him to get on with it. It was very good.

reply

Yeah, I've just watched it for the first time & was wondering about why it ended that way, so thanks for confirming that there was to be a third series. Then again, I'm not entirely sure I'd have wanted to see how Mulberry finally 'did his job'...Still, I don't know what the BBC were thinking, cutting it off like that. It makes no sense at all.

I agree. I didn't want to see Mrs. Farnaby die. Based on the prior episodes, I think that it's possible that in Series 3 she would have realized who or what Mulberry was and accepted it. The optimist in me is glad that I never saw an episode where Mrs. Farnaby died -- I can simply picture his mother Springtime giving her a long extension on her life and that Mulberry can stay with her.

I feel your pain. It was brilliant.

Season 3 was in the works when Mulberry was cancelled, so we will never know where the writers were taking the show.

I'd love to see the series brought back with all the original cast, especially the 1st Alice.
