Rhonda was WAY out of line!

When billy gets 'robbed' [aka cab gets beaten up in a poor side of town] the police detective [who was black] was basically telling him he was wrong for being there to begin with.

okay... so when he goes home and they are all wondering how he is like they live in Knots Landing she jumps on him when he says 'those people' and basically those people were the police.

this didn't bother me as much as later on when she picks a fight with Allison [who is Billy's roommate]. Like really??? grow up!

glad she doesn't last long on this series.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

I think he had said something like "those people down there" and she flipped because she couldn't handle the truth.

Yes, Rhonda. Those people. In that neighborhood. Did you see people rioting in the suburbs? Robbing people?

reply

Recently watched that episode and it bugged the crap out of me too!! She was totally grasping at straws.

I understood where Rhonda was coming from. Unless you are stereotyped or lumped in with a group just because you are the same race or live in the same neighborhood, then you won't understand.

reply

but that behavior is exactly what racism is!

I was/am stereotyped. I am irish [non practicing] catholic and am often confronted with: shouldn't you be pregnant having your drunk husband hitting you?

really. this happens. still today.

I am also part german. How many nazi cracks I get... these people are lucky they walk away alive because I walked away to begin with!

I still understand where she came from because I have been in that situation before. Don't stereotype and lump everybody together. You're looking for someone to say something back to you if you do.

reply

my point, especially now, is that if we say 'well you shouldn't have been there' to anyone, African American or not, that probably will be the last thing you will say.

Billy was frustrated with the situation, especially with the detective basically blaming the victim. Rhonda was out of line with her going after Allison who was not involved.
