Series get better or worse as it goes on?

I'm in the middle of Season 2...very impressed with the show.

Most comedies peak in the first two seasons and start going downhill afterwards. Does this show fit that pattern? I've heard Season 5 was exceptionally good?

Yeah, season 5 gets mentioned as a favorite quite a bit from what I've read. Not sure I could choose a favorite myself - I think they're all great.

The only 'difference' I can definitlely point out is that Season 6 is noticeably darker-themed than the earlier seasons (less comedy, more drama) - but no less great.

I honestly don't think they made a 'bad' episode of The Larry Sanders Show.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

Better, and the finale was perhaps the best of all.

It was great all the way through, but I would say it got even better once *spoiler*...................seriously *spoiler*..............

Larry was divorced and dating various female guests.

Original Poster here.

I've finished the series; one of the best tv comedies I've ever seen.

My personal rankings of the seasons:

5,4,3,6,2,1

So yes, the series does get better as it goes on. Once Larry is single and dating actively, the show gets better.

I've gone on a serious Netflix run the last few weeks, and I'll agree it's gotten better. I also agree Larry's wives dragged the show down, and I like single Larry a lot better.

Not sure if I have a favorite season, mainly because I haven't really paid attention to the episode titles and seasons. That could be a good sign that the show remained pretty good the whole time.

Oh stewardess...I speak jive.

I don't know about that. I think it peaked in seasons 3 and 4.

It's one of the rare shows where I didn't even sense a slight dip of quality or change in atmosphere as the show went on. I don't think I feel this way with nearly any other relatively long run show that I watch a lot. I love season 6 just as much as any other season, in fact I think it's one of the best of the series.
