REGION 1 DVD WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES PLEASE!!!!

I am a huge fan of the Power Ranger franchise, with the Saban years being my favorite era, as it had a continuous storyline and featured the characters growing until their departure. As a kid without internet, I had no idea that there was a source for the fight sequences and assumed it was American made.
I discovered the truth a few years ago, but had no idea that hardcore fans had translated most of the seasons episodes so Americans can watch(Toei hasn't done this, so its not official stuff). When I recently found out that most of the season that started the Power Ranger franchise was subtitled so I can watch it and understand I was excited and have been watching at least 3 or 4 episodes a day and am now near the end of the subtitled episodes, hoping to see more soon. I immediately decided to contact Toei International and inquire about any plans for an American release, especially considering the Power Rangers are finally getting a release on DVD after so many years. No word yet, but I'm hoping to hear back soon and if they don't have plans I hope this tells them that their is a fan base they can make money off of.

They won't release Sentai in U.S.

Why is that? Power Rangers is dubbed in Japanese in Japan and features Saban and Disney footage, so why won't Saban and Toei come together to release them here?

reply

Because releasing Sentai over here is essentially making a competition for Power Rangers, even though they derive from one soruce. Also, since the series is rarely seen outside of Japan, it would be too risky to release it here since there's no real fanbase for it.

The only reason we have a DVD release for Ultraman is because it was dubbed and aird here. Zyuranger and otehr sentai's have not. Most poeple would probably beleive it's a Power Ranger knock off.

Eitherway, Saban won't let it happen. From what Disney at one point bought the rights for the pre-zyuranger sentai's to prevent the same thing from happening, letting other companies buy the rights to release them.

It makes sense that Sentai won't ever be released in America, but it's a shame. I'd love to be able to get dvds, at least of the early stuff. Goranger, Battle Fever J, Jetman...

Or even other tokusatsu shows, like Kamen Rider or Metal Heroes. I think the Spiderman one would actually be really cool to get an American release. Oh well, at least there are tons of Ultraman and kaiju dvds

It's been pretty much confirmed on Shout Factory's twitter page, that Zyuranger is getting a subtitled DVD release over here. If they were to also shell out money for a dub of the show, they should try and get our original Rangers to dub their Sentai counterpart on the show with the exception of the Yellow Ranger, who was a guy in the original version.

Meh, the orignal MMPR team voices wouldn't really fit the Zyuranger vocies. Most live action dubs are weird though, I don't think I would want to see this dubbed for that reason unless it was done really well and they seldom are.

Also the fact that the orginal MMPR yellow passed way over 10 years ago.
