Thanks for ruining one of my fave shows, Carradine! :(

KF: TLC has always been one of my favorite shows ever since it first started airing.

However, now I'll never be able to watch it again without thinking of Carradine involved in extremely perverted acts.

Carradine has forever ruined one of my fave shows for 16 years by being a perv.

Grow up and get a life, dude.

I am grown up and I have a life...that's why I don't tie ropes around my neck and you know what...and find it absolutely disgusting when one of my fave shows is ruined by a pervy actor who did.

Didn't you see his True Hollywood Story? His daugther Calista,(who played the drug-using prostitute Cheryl on KF:TLC), was talking about the time he went running naked through the city, high on peyote, then David Carradine reminisced about his blatant sexual come-ons, and other bold, wild behavior...

And then the weirdness in how he takes serious roles as the wise guru, and then roles like in Big Stan, where he totally rips on the whole "wise guru" thing. Crazy!

My point is: he was always freaky, you either excused it, didn't see it, or ignored it.

But the actor does nothing to taint the character. According to Chris Potter, during the filming of KF:TLC, the actor couldn't go onscreen without drinking his fifth of whiskey.(Or whatever it was he was drinking, too lazy too look it up.)

David Carradine was a man. A man who, all his life, had his problems. Kwai Chang Caine was an ideal, he was the philosophical "perfect man"; Educated, wise, self-controlled, with the ability to tailor his actions perfectly to each situation, even if that behavior was contrary to his personality. I fall far short of that ideal. So do you, I bet. And so did David Carridine, but he lived a full life and he lived it the way he wanted to. God bless him, he was no Kwai Chang Caine!

Personally, I am sad he is gone, but I hope for his sake his death was exactly what it looks like: accidental, and not a cover-up for suicide or murder.

I knew Carradine drank excessively and was a huge jerk in real-life, but I didn't know he was a sicko perv also.

I always knew he wasn't wholesome like Kwai Chang Caine... but tying ropes around his thing and neck...well that's just wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy beyond the line of acceptable behaviour.

His death is pretty much the most shameful way a man can possibly die. It would be much better for him if he had instead died in any other way.

But don't you think the alcoholism, the drugs, the womanizing, the fact he could not keep a woman married to him, and the thrill-seeking behavior is all related? I read his book, Spirit of the Shaolin: a Kung-Fu Philosophy, and he lived his life in a very compulsive manner. He could commit to things, such as acting gigs, but once the next thing had arrived, it was just never the same with the old thing. Perhaps martial arts, acting, and his kids were the only stable things he could really hold on to. On one hand, he could be admired as a truly free spirit, on the other, what was always driving him on to the next thing, the next excitement, the next... distraction?

I have always found it fascinating, how our sexuality permeates our self-identity as humans. Perhaps my growing up singing songs from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and reading the collected works of Anne Rice have limited the severity with which I may judge the sexual behaviors of others. There is nothing in the bible against any sexual practice between two bonded and consenting adults. Once you're married, it's game on. Yes, I know Mrs.Carradine was not with her husband, but it appears he did not commit adultery, he did nothing to harm a child, or an animal, nor did he force himself sexually on a non-consenting adult.

Most adults engage in self stimulation,(around 95% of men and 80% of women), it is a healthy and natural human behavior. A bit embarrassing to be caught at it, sure, but the man was 72. In this age of high cholesterol and viagra, that's pretty damn good.

You're entitled to your own feelings, of course. But your comments strike me as puritanical, and I think you are being too hard on him. Can't you find enough empathy, or pity if that's what it takes, to forgive him?

It took his life!

Isn't that enough?

I feel he could have at least retired from the battlefield (a good quote from his character on this show) of life with honor. I don't think that is too much to have expected of him.

reply

Look, I relate to your disappointment but it's time to stop being so self-righteous. That battlefield quote really does not apply as he did not commit intentional suicide. It's not like he knew he was going to die, it's probably (sorry to suppose), a personal indulgance that he did quite often. Yeah it's weird, but heck, any form of masturbation is perverse. Forgive and feel sorry for him. Don't let a disturbing death tarnish his legacy.

reply

This is not what he picked to represent himself in the public eye. This was private, just for him. If he had endorsed a line of bondage equipment with a detailed affidavit of exactly how he used the equipment and his picture on the box, or taken digital pics of himself in the act and sent them out to all the online tabloids describing in graphic detail how he sexy he felt in each one, I would say you have a point.

But it was an accident. It's like being killed instantly in a car crash with your finger up your nose. I am sure that if foresight was 20/20, he would have chose something more dignified. But he was a clueless human, just like the rest of us.

guess if you die in the tub or shower all lathered be it where ever, one could come up with some stuff too, or if you happen to be with someone and in the middle of and dropped dead, the stuff some could say...I had/have the privilege of knowing 2 people who were close to DC and are still close to 2 of the family, yes he had problems and unfortunately the way he died, has been closed, not solved just closed. DC was an interesting actor who had addictions, hmmm how many are there in the cut throat world of acting, so guess all movies and tv shows should get off the air and never be seen again...that is what you have implied here on this post, and yes this in now 2014, so guess we should get rid of any kind of media as it is all ruined by people with addictions and problems...me, I ENJOY KUNG FU THE LEGEND CONTINUES, it by far is better than any so called reality CRAP being shoved out to...and any REAL TV/MOVIES with actors/actresses, like the ones on Kung Fu the legend continues, is that not why we watched in the first place?!?

there is not one who can throw the 1st stone, as not one person is ever perfect, hope your family and friends except you as you are, as even though this was wrote several yrs ago, we all need our loved ones, take care

"preachy" but have my own thoughts/opinions and something made me share this opinion today

jtsjtssmokey-703-366973--You have worded my opinion better than i could have. What ever problems or addictions Carradine had were his own business and no one elses. There is not one person on this planet that can claim to be perfect. We all have faults.

Yea, geez actors are people to I'm sorry he's gone who gives a rats ass what he drank or did in bed it was a good show and I liked him in it who the hell cares what he did off camera that is not really the public's bussiness

reply

Navaros you really have to try to seperate the actor from the character. I will still continue to enjoy Carradines work. Especially the original Kung Fu. He was by no means a saint when it came to woman and booze. He would not deny that. But because he died attempting AEA is not a valid reason to hate the tv show or the actor himself. What he did was a private matter and the fact that you think it was perverted is up for debate.

Do you enjoy sex for the pleasure of it? Look at pornographic material? These two things alone can be considered perverted but a god many number of people do them.

Sorry but your analysis is very shortsighted.

reply

Millions of women are home right now with a cucumber in one hand and a picture of their boyfriend in the other. They are also in the grocery store trying to find the largest cucumber they can.

Carradine is a perv and you can expect women to do disgusting sex acts for you in the comfort of your bedroom

What a bunch of hypocrites!!

Unless he was doing this while filming, or there is a scene of him doing this then I don't see how this could ruin the show for you.

If you can't separate the actor from the role, then you are going to end up having a LOT of TV shows and movies "ruined."
