Where were 'The Heights' supposed to be?

Did they ever state where in the U.S. these "The Heights" were? Or was it deliberately ambiguous so kids in any town could relate to it?

I believe it was left a bit ambiguous, but the three best guesses would be Cleveland, OH; Milwaukee, WI; or Chicago, IL. All three have Heights, and are on the water. Cleveland is about 8 hours from Springfield, IL and there was an episode where they made a "7 hour drive" to Springfield, IL to deliver a Red Caddy.

I dont know where the show was supposed to be but i seem to remember thinking back then that who ever initially pitched the show possibly based it on his life growing up in Vancouver. I dont remeber all the little things that made me think this but the two i remember was that there is a neighborhood in Burnaby called the heights and the place they hung out at was a restuarant called Bennys and Bennys Bagels is a Vancouver institution. May be just a coincidence but then every episode some little thing would support my theory.

I was under the impression this was supposed to be spelling's stab for grunge...he realized 90210 never capitalized on it properly/appropriately.

Well even though Walters actually can sing, can't center it on pretty faces. And so the 'really pretty alt rock' show ended super quick...like almost as fast as it began

Bringing Walters on Beverly Hills 90210 as the boyfriend was 'supposed' to be a kiss and make up. But he was turned into the abusive boyfriend...and that tanked what was left of his singing career. Walters should have just gone ahead and become a firefighter.
