What have they done!

Disney just does'nt make shows like this anymore! I used to watch this show on the Disney Afternoon, (It was 1991, so I was like, 6) It was great!

What has disney done?!?! The newer disney cartoons are OK, but no offence to anybody who likes them but..... They Kinda suck.

I miss Goof Troop!

reply

To answer your question, read the DIsney War book or whatever they call it. It was basically politics that really ruined the Disney empire and DA was a ....

reply

The Disney Afternoon didn't come off too bad in Disney War, they just said that animators that were perceived as lesser than the features were put to work there, and there's that whole mess with FOX, which really was nothing to with the productions of the DA shows and their production teams.

I was born in 82, and I agree, those were the hbest shows ever. Sometimes I just want to rewind life!

Well, They're doing the best they can to apeal to the "New Generation", But I do agree....Most of the New Disney cartoons suck.

reply

I totally agree. Most of the new stuff sucks. And to Sexee Diva, I really do want to rewind my life to when i was 4....it was soo fun back then

reply

I agree with you guys. Luckily we grew up in a time with great cartoons like Darkwing Duck and Quack Pack. What the hell is wrong with the animation in TV Shows nowadays? "Brandy & Mr.Whiskers" is a horrible Ren & Stimpy rip-off with lousy animation and nonexisting humour. Darkwing Duck rules.

reply

Yea, I use to adore the Goof Troop episodes so much. I was 10 years old, both Max and PJ's age. Just a week ago, I saw one of the Goof Troop episode on the video "A Goofy Movie", it was right after the movie ended. Funny how I don't recall how Max's voice use to be very funny when he was a kid, he sound better as a teen and when he finally grows up.

Well, it's been years since I posted here, things haven't gotten better in terms of animated shows, at least the way I see it. Some of these shows are so obnoxious in their "humour" and have lousy animation. Now, there are a few, well, ONE show that I do like. You also could depend on some decent animated action shows courtesy of DC Animation and Cartoon Network, but that seems to be gone, for now at least. Disney are still kings of animated movies if you ask me, with their Pixar movies as well as the ones from their "Disney Animation" department. But the tv shows are sorely lacking in quality akin to Darkwing Duck, DuckTales and so on. Don't mean to sound like a grouch, and it's not that big of a deal, I can still fire up some old DVDs and VHS tapes.

yeah, i remember and miss waking up early in the morning and turn on the tv to watch my fav show Goof Troop ! :)

the new cartoons just plain suck, i cant find the supposed humor in the new shows

When I try to watch cartoons these days, I feel like my brains are being violated by a death row inmate. Actually, cartoons from the late 90's and beyond make me feel like this. Who besides me remembers when good shows came on TV, like Ducktales, Talespin, Goof Troop, Bonkers, Sonic the Hedgehog, the Mario Brothers, the Legend of Zelda, old-style Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc? Even some of Disney's movie-to-show spinoffs weren't too bad, like The Little Mermaid series. Don't get me started on the shows these days... Well, there's one exception: I find Lilo and Stitch the series to be watchable.

Sometimes I wish Adam Sandler's movie "Click" would just come true so I could rewind to these days...

I totally and whole-heartily agree. I was born in 84, and I consider myself lucky. My little brother who is 10 years younger than me is stuck with crap.

I do admit that SpongeBob is amusing, but the quality of writing and creativity doesn't match up.

We need a animation messiah.

reply

I feel the same way, Gummy-Nail-Polish.

I still remember and love all those show you meention to this day - well, except Legend of Zelda, I wasn't a huge fan of that. I was some of those cartoon you mentioned got revive, especially Sonic the Hedgehog, since it ended with a cliffhanger. You are talking about Sonic (SatAM), right?

Bring back the classic cartoons, that what I say.

The writers and animators of cartoons are just *beep* lazy. The only exception is Family Guy, the animation may not be that great, but it suites the show, and the writing is funnier than SpoungBob Square Pants (a cartoon which isn't that funny).

Children's entertainment has been going downhill since the late '90s, the fact that SpoungBob Square Pants made it into the 100 Greatest Cartoons is a *beep* joke, the latter was a documentary on Channel 4, here in the UK.

Can't wait til the Sonic the Hedgehog DVD boxset is released. Hopefully it gets a European release. And I'm definitely getting Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers - you forgot to mention that great cartoon - when it get released it's European release next month.

Revive some more cartoons from the late '80s/early-mid '90s. That was the classic era for great quality cartoons.

I'm only one that feels that a whole generation of kids (being those of us who grew up in the late '80s/early-mid '90s) have been ignored for the past 10 years. I mean all the cartoons I grew watching have been unfairly cancelled, two cartoons have since been revived (Biker Mice from Mars and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but they're not not same as the versions I grew up watching).

Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) was unfairly cancelled by ABC because if some of you can remember, it ended with a cliffhanger which would've lead into Season 3, if it didn't get cancelled. This show inparticularly needs to be revived not only because of the cliffhanger ending it was cancelled on, but, because Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) has a bigger fanbase now than it did when it originally aired.

Most of the cartoons from the '90s really need to be revived.

I agree with you guys. I miss all the old shows I used to watch as a kid. I miss the 1990's in general actually.

reply

me too, i remember watching all the greats on disney channel(which was like a big deal to have that channel way back when lol) I loved the chip and dale one and my favorites were the little mermaid and aladdin shows too. I get sad now when i turn them on for my daughter and i can't watch them the same way. But I agree that i am lucky i was a kid when those shows were on, they really are the classics.

I'm with y'all, I used to watch a lot of the good stuff, and I miss it like hell.

Goof Troop
Darkwing Duck
Ducktales
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers
Gummi Bears

I LOVED Goof Troop, I especially loved the family reunion episode, and the one where Max's cousin Debbie comes to town, and the one where they go see the Munilator movie and Pete scares them telling them it was a true story. They just don't make anything like they ought to anymore.

yeah i dont get it either. some of those shows were really great (but i dont remember Legend of Zelda). i wish i could watch them for old times sake but sadly i dont get Toon Disney. kids dont have the values they have years ago..they dont know what they are missing. they actually enjoy these ripped off cartoons. but if the kids from this generation still had nothing but the classics to watch maybe they would enjoy it. they are forced to enjoy the new crap. i think some of the live action shows on Disney Channel are good like Phil of the Future (upset that it got cancelled!!) and Suite Life of Zack and Cody but the new cartoons? double blech! and who came up w/the idea for As the Bell Rings??!! i dont even know why i bother looking to see what new shows are coming out.

btw i was born in 88 if you were wondering

I feel smarter than people when they dont understand what im saying. im confusing i know

reply

I was born 1989 and while I know I did miss some of the best stuff since I was too young, I did get to watch a lot of it.. Goof Troop, DuckTales, Aladdin, Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin.. then you could not even mention Disney and remember Batman: The Animated Series, Ninja Turtles, Animaniacs, Doug, Pinky and the Brain, 2 Stupid Dogs, Rocko.. then hop over a couple years to Cartoon Network w/ Ed, Edd & Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, etc.. I'd list more but I'm tired..

but really, I don't know. 80's and 90's cartoons were great. The ones from 2000 - 2002 were alright since they were basically leftovers from the 90's. But now.. now it's just.. they're horrible! There are a few good ones, but 90% are just bad, it's really sad for the kids growing up today.

when I have a kid, I'm going to make them watch 80's and 90's cartoons until they acknowledge that these were the best of times even though they didn't exist back then to know

What about Quack Pack. Those two have always been my fav. Disney shows.

Teachers pet and Stanley can go stuff them selves.....bring back winnie the pooh (without that sucker lumpy) and goof troup.. hell i'd even settle for recess and Doug at least they're better than the krap nowdays

reply

i actuallty feel sorry for my kids(future ones, i'm only 18). as a 90's kid i had the luxuary of the new adventures of winnie the pooh (not the book of pooh (sucks)and without lumpy), goof troup, recess, doug, quack pack and Talespin... they'd better come up with higher quality *beep* than stanley and teacher's pet(so not a disney programme even though it is)

reply

OK. I was born in 78. I LOVED Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck, Quack Pack, Gargoyles, Ninja Turtles, Animaniacs, Bonkers, Freakazoid, & Earthworm Jim.

I feel so bad for my son, Logan, who's 2. Thankfully, he's discovered A Goofy Movie & the sequel. The only "new" show I can stand is The Fairly Odd Parents. Nick has the annoying habit of throwing all it's money/airtime into 1 show. Why the hell would they pick SpongeBob over FOP is WAAAY beyond me.

For now, I'm just waiting on the DVDs of my shows so my boy will have something GOOD to watch.

That was actually a long term business strategy of theirs according to their reps comments in trade mags. It's been a pretty lucrative model for them.

I loved teacher's pet. Their musical to end the series was critically acclaimed. Also you can't beat Nathan Lane.
